Hit that subscribe button and never miss an upload in today's episode, vrbo is dialing up the tech to deliver smarter, more personalized travel deals. The vacation rental brand under Expedia Group is rolling out a suite of new promotions, Think Mobile exclusive offers, last minute discounts and member only perks through its one key loyalty program. These enhancements are powered by Expedia's upgraded platform, which enables VRBO to stitch the value together across flights, car rentals and accommodations, according to Tim Rosolio, VP of Vacation Rental Partnerships. But it's not just about discounts. Vrbo is also putting a greater focus on quality. Hosts with frequent cancellations or poor reviews may be shown the door as the company sharpens its focus on delivering top tier guest experiences. AI is playing a role too, from onboarding new listings to helping hosts improve property descriptions. Just don't expect your beach photo to be the hero image if it doesn't showcase the actual home. Meanwhile, the travel industry is grappling with market turbulence sparked by new tariffs from the Trump administration. Travel stocks plummeted after the announcement, with the Skift Travel 200 index falling 5% in in a single day and North American travel companies taking the hardest hit at 8.1%. Skift Research has revised its global travel growth forecast for 2025 from a healthy 6 to 9% down to just 2 to 5%. The cruise and tours sector was hit the hardest, down over 10% in a single day, with Norwegian Cruise Line suffering a staggering 16.4% drop. Online travel agencies like booking.com fared slightly better as investors bet on more budget conscious travelers opting for deals over luxury. That shift may signal more road trips, economy stays and OTA bookings in the months to come. That's all for today's episode of STR Daily, powered by Boostly.
