The Hidden Code That’s Been Controlling You | Markus Neukom on Breaking Free and Rewriting Your Life
12 Aug 2025 · 50 min
In this episode of "Your Ultimate Life," host Kellen Flukiger interviews Markus Neukom, who shares a life‑long journey from an innate sense of service to a profound personal transformation. Markus explains that he was born with a “servant heart,” a purpose he knew from early childhood, which was abruptly disrupted by a traumatic accident at age nine‑and‑a‑half. The incident, combined with pressure from an evangelical church, led him to consciously suppress his soul’s purpose for over a decade. In his early twenties he sought psychotherapy, where a pivotal therapist recognized the health of his soul despite his trauma, prompting Markus to reclaim his inner voice. He later built a successful consulting and executive‑coaching career, but grew weary of conventional problem‑solving models. A turning point came when he was told he was becoming a “steward of stillness.” He now offers a non‑physical “room” of stillness—four energetic walls he calls the Institute of Catalyst for Legacy and Influence (CFLI)—where clients can hear their own soul, surface true issues, and align thoughts with heart. He illustrates his philosophy with stories about pricing his services, an award‑dinner encounter that led to a $20,000 contract, and the metaphor of a hamster wheel that keeps people as “human havings” rather than “human beings.” Markus critiques societal systems (religion, corporate culture) that suppress soul awareness, arguing that true freedom comes from remembering one’s deeper purpose. He concludes with a call to listeners to seek the stillness space, connect via his LinkedIn, and recognize that “there is more.”

Thank you so much for having me, Kenan. It's a great pleasure.
You are absolutely welcome. Grateful to know you and grateful for Who you're being. So we had a brief chance the other day to chat, and so I learned a little bit about you, but nowhere near as much as I'd like to know. And you said something right before we started that said, I'm ready to serve. So why did you say that?
Because it's literally what I'm here for. You know, there's always this talk about servant heart. You've heard that, right?
Yeah.
And I just realized that if someone has a servant heart, You rarely hear me talk about it, by the way, because I feel if someone talks about too much of having a servant heart, it makes me a little bit weary. But for me, it's literally the foundation of my being. I realize when I serve, guess what? Money is never shortage. Friends are never shortage. Connections are never shortage. Opportunities are never shortage. So it's always almost like people are taking— how do you call it in the US? Taking the carriage in front of the horse.
Cart in front of the horse, right?
Yes. And if you actually literally have the horse in front of the carriage, what actually happens is it is service first or serving first, which is not being a servant, by the way. It's literally being in service. And that is the ultimate formula for me for the rest.
So I believe you and I agree with you 100%, 100%. And I see it, the truth of that thought in my own life and business and everything. So why is that important to you? Like, you weren't born knowing that because we're not born knowing very much. So tell me a little bit about what happened. Tell me a little bit of a story. Like, take me to how you got to a place where you, you can— you sit here and tell me that service is first and money's not a problem and friends are not a problem and all that stuff you said, which is beautiful and true. But I want you to take me on a little bit of a trip. How did you get to where you believe and live in that knowledge?
This might surprise you. When I was born, I actually was born like that. So when I was born, I understood my life is a life of service. So it took me 9 and a half years until I experienced an accident, which the aftermath made me forget what I had known before. So it's a little bit different than most people. Right. Most people come to this earth, forget, and then they remember. But I came and I knew. I remembered, I knew. So then my decision was to protect my soul. And by protecting my soul, I went into a conscious forgetting. So my journey from 9 and a half— think about it, it's a very tender age— from 9 and a half until today, and I'm 53 years old, was the journey of remembering what I once knew. So imagine my soul was But at the same time, it followed me all the time. It always reminded me, Markus, you are a servant first. It's not being a servant, you know, like under people. It's equal. It's basically the attitude of service, which it was.
It's a choice about how to approach and live in a relationship. So I get it.
Yes, it absolutely is. What was interesting, you know, when I was an employee, I was an employee until, let's say, 15, 18 years ago. I don't remember anymore. And until then, I never had any issues with funding. Because why? I always served first. Friends came, jobs came, everything came. Because I just believe this is actually the real system. Yeah. of abundance. Be of service first and the rest will follow. So, you know, this actually brings us to an interesting conclusion. What if the rest doesn't follow? Is it because the service is not ideally, you know, segmented? You see what I mean?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It brings someone to doubt. So if I do, if I'm in service, And all that cool stuff doesn't happen, then what? Like, and there's all kinds of ways to go out of that question, but I want to hear where you go out of that question. So go for it.
You see, what's interesting, when we came to the US in October, and I told you that I went on quite a journey, basically I went on a hero's journey and very accelerated. And I once asked the universe, why is it that so many, let's call it nicely, less intelligent people than I am, less skilled people than I am, less nicer people than I am, are millionaires, multimillionaires, and if not billionaires. Why not me? You know what the answer was?
I don't, but you're going to tell me and I love it.
It was very interesting. You were protected. Because you first had to become who you are today in order to take care of the funding that will come. So the challenge was me becoming corruptible, me giving in into, you know, it's as good as it gets. Like, my spirituality doesn't have to be elevated more. Like, we look, you know, at the spiritual scene. You could think, gosh, this thing is filled of elevated and enlightened beings. They're mostly people who say, you know what, I'm above most of the people and I can rest on my laurels. I'm rich now. But the universe told me, Markus, we have prevented you from having that funding until you are ready to actually steward it in a way that you don't become big-headed, that you don't become haughty. That you don't become corruptible because, you know, money does often corrupt.
You know what? I can— some of the listeners may know this already, but you're 100% right because I did it the other way. I pursued all that stuff and created wealth and status and jobs and money and everything else. And at the same time struggled with misery and addictions and depression and exactly what you're describing until I had to Start over until I had to, oh, you know, I can't, and then take the journey that you're talking about. So it doesn't surprise me at all that you say, I was protected, that was delayed because I needed to get to a place where I could steward and manage these things well as they came.
But you know, I'd like to tell you a little bit more of your interest to Kellen.
Sure.
So what happened was I then wondered, was it fair? And I had to say, yes, it was fair because, you know, I am someone who is not very competitive. The only competition I have is myself, and that's playful. So when I was employed, I asked myself, how much can I charge for my company in order for people still paying my services? And it became Up to $750 per hour, which was nice for the company. And then I met a management consultant because I decided to go solo to become an entrepreneur. And he said to me, Markus, this doesn't work anymore. You are not in charge of the company anymore. Now it's you. So you will need to slash your pricing by half. So $750 divided by 2, right? It's quite A reduction. So when I became an entrepreneur, I received an email out of the blue from a previous client of the ex-company asking whether I would still do outplacement. So I replied yes. So he said, look, I have a dear friend who just got fired. He needs someone like you. He has the budget. So my wife asked me, how much are you going to charge? And I said, half before. She said, why? You're going to charge $750. I said, are you crazy? The other guy told me to half. She said, was it the company that was the quality or was it you? So I drove 1 hour to that place and I battled with myself, I can tell you. And in the end, I charged $750 and I got paid. So that's the side story.
No, it's actually a really important story because there's a notion that there's some magic about all the rest of that crap that that consultant consultant had bought into. And the person that knew you before knew what you charged. And I don't know why they would have an expectation that suddenly you'd value yourself at half just because you're hanging your own shingle. That's nonsense.
Exactly. Exactly. So imagine what I did then is, okay, this was my first client. And then we went to Budapest and Hungary and we came back and I had an invitation to A management summary. And so I went there and I had already paid for the gala dinner. So before the gala dinner, I got so tired and I thought, gosh, goodness me, now I have been in this award ceremony and now I have to stay like 2 or 3 more hours and eat way too much. So in the end, I decided, let's stay. Guess what? 2 seats were free at my table. And one of the winners of this award with his secretary sat next to me. So I did nothing else than just interview him, have fun with him, ask him questions, ask him questions, made it all about him. So after, I think, 20 minutes, he said, sir, I have no bloody clue who you are. I know nothing about you. Let's make it now about you. Imagine being a consultant, having that curveball. Let's make it all about you. So at the end of the night, he said, sir, I don't know yet how, but you and I are going to do business with each other. No acquisition, absolutely nothing, right? So he calls me up in a couple of weeks and he says, sir, I need your help. We have a fire in our house. So I went there, like not a literal fire, metaphoric fire. And he asked me, how much am I going to charge? And I said, you don't want to know that. He said, yeah, but you can tell me your hourly price. I said, no, I'm not. I'm doing something else. I'll ask you to go home into your office and give it some thought. How much would it cost you, or how much would it be worth for you if I solved your problem? And I just looked at him and he said, okay, challenge accepted. So we met again for dinner, after lunch, and he said, okay, so what is your hourly rate? Oh no, I'm just kidding. I have done my homework, he said. So he presented me a budget of $20,000, which was unheard of as the first business for a company. No references, absolutely no proof of concept of mine. All he had was based on that 20-minute conversation. and made it all about himself. That's apparently where he saw my quality. Think about it.
Mm-hmm.
So it's much more the stillness that spoke then already than actually what I said. So what happened later was then I met another management consultant and guess what he said? He said, Markus, I'm sorry to burst your bubble. This is not going to go on like this. You have to do acquisition. You have to learn marketing. You have to learn advertising. You have to learn how to persuade people. Guess what? I bought into it. You know what happened? My business declined. And that's when the universe said, that's when we took you into the university of life. That's when we taught you that it's not about people who actually sustain you. It is us. the universe. And one day I even asked, how is it now I have literally severed ties to almost all my connections? So I have no one anymore who can bring me business. And then the universe said something very straightforward. Do you really believe that one single cent has ever come from people, from organizations, From clients. And that was my wake-up call, Kieran. That's when I understood money never came from someone. It always came through someone, always through someone. And that was when I was, yeah, getting clear. So I said, okay, dependencies are all gone. Now it's all Trusting again what I always trusted in, that the universe does provide. And it does.
That's wonderful. You know, the, the, and it's true. It's wonderful and it's true. I, I wanna talk more about that and I wanna ask you a little bit more about your business. But before I do, I wanna go back to 9 and a half. So before you had this accident, uh, you said you were born knowing that you were to be of service, that, that your mission here was to serve.
What did that look like for an 8-year-old or a 9-year-old before you—
what did that feel like? How did that show up? Like, how does an 8-year-old that knows I'm here to serve, what does that look like?
It's absolutely natural. It's a natural love for people. It's a natural love for wanting everyone else to do good because I was doing great. So I had the desire for people to get to that point as well, that they remember that they are more than just what they believe they are. And basically, you can say I was a ray of sunshine.
Mm-hmm.
And I believe that ray of sunshine, you know, even when I went into my apprenticeship and everything, they always said, Markus, you are like a ray of sunshine. And I believe that probably sums it up the most. So I brought light where there was darkness. I brought hope where there was despair. I think that sums it up really well. I was just a normal kid.
Well, it's interesting because my next question is going to be, okay, well, what happened when you were 9? Because that marked a turning point or a change, not in who you were supposed to be or ultimately would become, But in an interruption, I guess, in that flow. So what happened? What was the accident that happened when you were young?
It's interesting. The accident itself wasn't the catalyst. 3 kids, and remember I was 9 and a half. I was the oldest. 3 kids almost died and I was accused of it.
Oh, wow.
So what happened was I was a member of a church, of an evangelical church, and the elders came to me and they said, Markus, we always warned you, your freedom will one day not only endanger you, but other people. Guess what I've done? I listened and I said, okay, now I definitely realize I am a danger for the society. So I went to the church and said, okay, I hand over my freedom because apparently I am not only a threat for myself, but I'm a threat for other people. So that's when I decided to go home, speak to my soul, and say to my soul, you are in danger. I have just handed over freedom, so I cannot protect you anymore. And if you roam free, they are going to harm you. So we decided to wall it in and that one day when I'm grown up, when I'm old enough, I will come back and take it out. So what I did not know is that my soul always walked with me. It kind of stayed walled in, but you know, the soul.
Yeah.
It doesn't get stopped by a wall. So it basically always roamed with me. So that is, yeah, pretty much the summary of it.
Somebody— that's crazy. So, but it's a really illustration of how powerful the mentor figures, whether they're parents, church, community, school, have to us because they tell an impressionable 9-year-old kid, you're dangerous. And so you go home and say, I'm dangerous. I better hide it, stuff it in, sew it shut, whatever, zip it up and put it away.
Yeah, that's pretty much what it was in my life. My life changed like in an instant.
Wow.
Picture this, an absolute blossoming child, a ray of sunshine. The next day, I would not even dare to walk into a restaurant where someone was breathing with me unless that person came and went into the restaurant first, because I was totally of the impression that I do not deserve that air in there. that it belongs to other people. So it's from an absolute high as the 9-and-a-half-year-old to absolutely loss of identity within an instant.
So when did you start to— was it just a gradual process that began immediately, or was there another initiating event that said, wait a minute, this isn't right, I'm not supposed to be living in a place where I'm convinced that I'm not worthy and I don't deserve to breathe the air? Where did that begin to change?
I would say the one time that it really changed was when I decided, Kellen, to be the first of this church to go and seek help of a psychotherapist. That was the first time. Yeah.
So how old were you then?
I believe I was in my 20s, early 20s.
So for 14 years, 13 years, you lived in this contracted Wadded up state under the influence of some person who either intentionally or unintentionally, I don't know, told you some stuff, you internalized it. Finally, after 13 years or something, you said, this can't be right. I need to go talk to somebody. And you went and talked to a shrink to say, hey, help me with out. Is this right? And so that began a journey for you.
You know what I did?
No, if you want to—
I'll tell you what I did. I'll tell you what I did. That was crazy. So I went to see a guy who I thought could really become my mentor. So at the end he said, okay, this is the charge which the insurance company's going to allow me to do. However, from you, I require another $100 under the table. So he ended up becoming my guide. I didn't want to play any role in that corruption thing, right? Right. So I left and I went to the number 2, and the number 2 was a— probably he was in his 50s, I would say— a Protestant priest who knew what I was talking about in terms of my church upbringing. And I went to see him with the words, like I remember it was yesterday, I said to him, I want to learn machismo from you. Because as you can imagine, my— Right, right, right. My background, everything was absolutely out of line. Like I had, what is it called? The spine. Right. I had no metaphorical spine anymore. Totally weak. And I went to see him with the words, I want to learn machismo. And he looked at me and he said, Okay, let's do it.
Wow.
That's how it all started. Yeah. I think it was in my mid-20s or late 20s. So it was almost 20 years in the system.
So life, you know, life is always a set of experiences. And when things happen to us, they either ruin us or refine us. And sometimes we let things ruin us for a day, a week, a month, a year, a decade. Many decades, and eventually we can allow them or treat them as opportunities for refinement. So as you look back on that nearly 20 years of clouding your light or living in a false belief or having been affected by the opinions and teaching of this person, and you look at that situation now, is there something, anything about it that you say, that was really Beneficial. I learned this, that, and the other.
Let me answer you differently.
Okay.
1.5 years in with my psychotherapist, he suddenly looked at me when I came and he said, sir, I need to ask you a question. Many other people, probably most, went through what you went through, would either have landed in an asylum Mental asylum, or they would have committed suicide. Well, I just looked at him. And then he said, but if I look into your eyes, you have one of the most healthiest set of eyes I've ever seen. So he knew the eyes are the mirror to my soul.
Right.
So he knew my soul wasn't damaged. He said, how is that possible? And I said, look, it might surprise you, especially as a priest, but I always knew that this belongs to the path of my life, that this belongs to my becoming and to my arriving. And he said, yeah, otherwise it's not possible to imagine and to explain. So I never blamed the people who caused the trauma in the end at church. So many people throughout my life said, Markus, if I had experienced what you had experienced that one day, I would have cursed people. I would have cursed your parents because your parents weren't there to defend you. They even actually let you in the belief for 20 years that you were responsible for that accident, where there was a whole different reason why it actually happened in the end. So no, there wasn't one day where I thought I actually blamed someone. But what it wasn't, I never thanked the system for what it taught me. I thanked the universe for taking me into school and teaching me those lessons. And, you know, as I said, I'm 53 years old, Kellan, now. And the universe told me probably half a year ago, He said, look, you had to understand what humans are going through in order to understand and to be able to help them. Because unless you went through what most people never went through, you won't be able to really help them. Because my psychology said, look, if you come to me with the business issues, I can't help you. I have no bloody clue from business. I'm a priest and I know psychology. I can help you psychotherapeutically, right? But I can't help you when you come with business things. You will have to explain it to me as if you explained it to a child. So guess what? This does not happen with me if I work with somebody because I went through the worst. I know what it means to lose your identity absolutely to the point where you don't even know that you exist, where you feel that breathing does not belong to you. Fresh air does not belong to you in a restaurant because, no, there's a limited amount, right? Too many people in it, there's no oxygen anymore. So I thought the oxygen belongs to others.
Yeah.
But that totally disappeared over time and I reclaimed— I was actually at my psychotherapist. So I sat on the ground and I said, look, Now I show you something. Now I'm showing you how I'm reclaiming my own turf. And he said, look, it was crazy to hear you talk because you asked questions, sat on the ground. Before I even understood what you asked, you already answered. Why is that? And I said, look, I never came for answers. I paid you money, so you give me your 4 balls. Right? I rented them basically to finally have a place where I'm allowed to speak my truth. And that's what it came down to. That was the beginning of my healing when I finally had a place, but I had to pay for it. I had no friends who would do that. They were in the system, so I had to pay a professional. And he just listened.
So let's talk. Let's— and so the years have gone by and you've reclaimed that, and I want to get to what you're doing now. So today, as you are an entrepreneur, you had a job for some time, you're an employee, you had a company, you then left that, and you told some stories about leaving that. Today, what is your focus? How do you add good to the world? Like, I know that you're Your, your mission is to help others find their own light like you had. And you talked about people remembering over time, and you were and then weren't and are again. So tell me what you do right now to add good to the world. That's a phrase that I use that just means that's about your purpose and passion. What do you do?
I think it's important to understand that a little while ago I was Quite a successful business consultant and executive coach, and I suddenly was taught over. No executive coaching anymore, no business consulting anymore, and that's when I became a little bit weary. So what I was told is, Marcus, you are becoming a steward of stillness. And I thought, okay, that sounds interesting. Steward of stillness. You know, most people would think it's like. yoga, it's like meditation where you sit still. It's the opposite. Steward of Stillness basically means I am providing a room, which is not like a physical room. It's like wherever you meet, it's just stillness. So what I'm doing is I'm providing a room for people where you can look at like this. There's like a cloak over us where all the outside noise is silent. All the stresses are outside, and suddenly there's a coherence between your thoughts and your heart, and that opens the channel for the soul. And suddenly you begin to see things like, wow, I never looked at it like this. Or somebody else says, Markus, I never told anyone what I'm going to tell you now. And that is when the channel is sometimes even for the first time in their lives, Keelan, look at that. For the first time in their lives, they are so calm. There's so much in stillness that they hear their own soul speak to them for the first time in their lives. Because you see, why did I say I'm not a consultant and a coach anymore? If you're a business consultant, you are here to solve the problems of the client. So the client tells you what problems he wants to get solved, right?
Mm-hmm.
Look at it from another point. Look at it from a doctor, an MD, medical doctor. You will go to a doctor and say, doc, you know what? My elbow hurts. I want this elbow treated. Every good doctor would look at you and say, Keelan, you know what? Let's have a diagnosis first. And he says, you know what? You actually have a shoulder issue. And you would think, you know what, doc? I have an elbow issue.
Right.
If you do not help me, I will find a doctor who helps me with my damn elbow.
Right.
Sorry. That's how consulting and coaching works. Unless I'm willing to help a client with the perceived problem, I am not a good consultant. And that's when the universe said, Markus, stop that. That's bullshit. You have to get people into stillness first, where the actual problems become evident. And based on that, you can coach and you can consult. But the prescription is not, or the diagnosis is not done by the client, which is absolutely insane if you think about it. I have many friends who are doctors. If I tell them how consulting works, they say, Markus, this is like charlatan. How can you even do that? And, you know, a friend of mine, I was on a call recently and she said, Markus, let's look at one question. Why is it that there are so many consultants? And even more bigger problems in corporations than ever before. And I said, you've just gave the answer. It's the consultants. It's the consultants. So that's when I realized going into stillness, providing the people the room where their own voice, their own soul starts revealing the actual issues. That's when real change happens. And anything else is basically, you know, I've been doing it long enough. It's basically superficial, superficial makeup, really, if you want to put it this way. But if you really want to go into depth, I'll give you an example. A company has a huge turnaround. So what would you do? You take care of the turnaround, right? You help them with hiring. But if you go in depth, you suddenly realize, hey, there is one person in silence, a silent killer, making sure that there is so much mobbing taking place in such a low, deep level that no one even sees it. And the problem is not the person who mobs. The problem is the person who is the owner. The owner doesn't have a spine. And that's the problem. So when I start working with the owner and say, you know what, you are actually the problem. The problem is that you have no sign. You have allowed this person to become a huge issue for your company. That wouldn't happen because I helped. I was a great consultant. I helped with the hiring. I helped with the retention. You know, we made sure that the image was corrected. No, the problem was the owner all the time. He had no guts to hire people who he really needed. You know why? Because he didn't believe he deserves to be successful beyond measure. That's what most people suffer with. And that's when I understood stillness is the key.
You know what's really interesting? The way you've described that, It's a reflection of what you felt. When that happened, that accident happened and that stuff happened, and then you deserved— you believed you didn't deserve to breathe the air. You just told me about an owner who didn't believe he deserved this, that, and the other. Yeah. The other thing you said that's really interesting is you said, I rented the space from the shrink so I could hear myself think. I could have a space to find things out. And then you said, what I provide is the 4 walls and the space for them to do what I did in the space with that shrink. So it's interesting, the parallels there about your own—
You're absolutely right. I love that.
Path of growth and what you provide now. And I find that over and over again that our path of development, whatever it was, Is the very essence of what we have to offer to help people with, because it's what has helped us, caused us, allowed us to become what we are. And so in both those cases, parallel of don't deserve, don't deserve, the space to discover and the space to discover. So that's really interesting.
It's beautifully put. And then actually add something else, which you'll find the kicker. I suddenly learned that I'm not only the steward of stillness, but that I'm the steward of the Institute of CFLI. And that made me giggle. And I said, how the heck do I have an institute? Then it dawned on me. Wherever I am, the Institute of Catalyst for Legacy and Influence is Present. So basically, I have my mobile 4 walls, which I move everywhere I am. Isn't that amazing? So the 4 walls you just mentioned have become my mobile institute. So when— if I travel to LA and I have a meeting there, the institute materializes energetically. And when I leave again, I take the institute with me.
Catalyst for Legacy and Influence. Is that a company name or is that a descriptor of how you provide those 4 walls and the space for people to hear themselves think maybe for the first time?
It's pretty much who I am. I am the catalyst for legacy and influence because this is exactly what I'm doing. I'm helping people to find a legacy and thus become influential. Yeah.
So that's, I love the way you've described it and the journey to get there. I mean, you know, I talk to lots of people that have a message and the message is always about helping people step into their power, realize who they are, get outta their own way. And we've all heard all those different ways of describing, pointing at, I guess, a particular goal. And the way you described a little while ago is another way, and I love it, which is a coherence between your thoughts and your heart so that your soul can come through that finally open channel. Why do you think it's so hard? Like, so many people are talking about this, working on it, and you've got a miraculous story and power that you do. Why do you think it's so hard to get our thoughts and our heart in coherence so that our soul can speak through?
I would say it pretty much comes down to socialization. You see, as I said, most people are born having forgotten. So the only thing they learn is what society teaches them. So I don't think anyone is to be blamed who walks into that trap. And I believe my job is really to help people to remember that they are more than they actually were taught. To be. So I believe it very much has to do with the system. And there is a system which is not interested in people remembering, because as you can imagine, if somebody starts to remember, they become free. And if you are free, let's look at church, you are not controllable anymore. Suddenly love becomes the driver and not fear.
You know, it's interesting that churches, in the name of the divine, in the name of the creator who created this soul and, you know, gave us all this stuff, it is in the name of that creator that all that fear is exercised.
Yeah.
Isn't that interesting? And obviously that was not the design. It's a, it's a perversion, uh, distortion of that. And Over time, you know, we have created a system where we suck the life out of everybody, whether it's at birth or at 2 or at 9 and a half or whatever. We suck the life out of them and, you know, wad them up into this, you got to do this to be okay, you're supposed to do this, supposed to do that. Mm-hmm. And internally, everybody's feeling the chafing of this just doesn't seem right. And there's so few that are willing to go explore that. And you're called to reach and empower and enable and wake up and provide the space and the, you know, the Institute for Legacy and Impact. What is it?
Say it again.
Say CFLI. What is
it? Catalyst for Legacy and Influence.
Catalyst for Legacy and Influence. I love that. So I love the catalyst word. And you notice on my screen I say alchemist and I I use both, not interchangeably because they're not quite the same. But a catalyst really is something that is not— in chemistry, is something that's not used up in the process, but something without which this particular reaction wouldn't take place. Mm-hmm. So your catalyst, the 4 walls that you take with you to create the safety and the space and the peace, the steward of stillness. Catalyst for legacy and influence and the steward of stillness. Love both those descriptions. So if people want to find out more, if they want to, you know, get more knowledge and connect more with Markus and hear more about the steward of stillness, where do they go? How do they do that?
So the easiest thing, Kellen, is definitely going on my LinkedIn profile, which is just my first name and last name, Markus with a K, then N-E-U-K-O-M. And just send me a connection request. Just mention that they saw me on your show, and I'm happy to get on a call with them.
How hard do you? So I'm going to spell that again: M-A-R-K-U-S-N-E-U-K-O-M. I do that because when you have a name like Kellen Flukiger, you pay attention to that sort of stuff. But anyway, so how do you get people started? I mean, we've lived so socialized and buried in this noise and the system for. so long that it becomes the default operating system. And what you're doing is trying to create a pattern interrupt where they have space and an opportunity to get in coherence and to allow stillness to create the conduit. How do you start with someone who knows there's something wrong? They're feeling that internal strife between who they ought to be and what's going on. How do you get me started on that? If I come to you and I hear you and I say, yeah, yeah, I want some of that. What do you do first?
You see, it's really interesting. I give you a life example. I met the person and that person heard that voice. Is this it? Right? It's the soul speaking because you mentioned it. This is right, you know? Yeah. That's exactly what it is.
Conflict between the soul that knows there's a lot more.
And the system.
And the system or the ego or whatever that we've learned to live inside. So anyway, go ahead.
Absolutely. Okay. So he got to the point where he said, Markus, not one more day. Not do I want to, but can I stay in the system?
Mm-hmm.
And then he came to me. We had several sessions and we're still in the process, by the way. It can be quite a long process. So he came to me and he suddenly said, Markus, I have one question for you. What is it going to cost me? And I knew it's not money he's asking. And I said to him, it is losing all your illusions, believing you know who you are, and finding out you are not who the world told you to be. He said, oh shit. I said, yeah, it's quite a lot. So what do you have to gain? It's total freedom. It's finally getting to the point where you actually were meant to be. Finally leaving a hamster wheel because, you know, this is something so shocking to me, Ken. So many people actually believe they have become hamsters. Not only are they human beings running in a hamster wheel, which I believe they are, they actually become hamsters. So when they start working with me, what happens is they take one little hamster foot and put it on the ground outside of the wheel very carefully. They're freaking out when they do that. And suddenly that little hamster foot touches the ground. Guess what? They become human beings immediately. Because right now they're human havings, they're human achievers, they're human doings, and they have no bloody clue what it means to be a human being. And that's when it happens. When the first time your foot, the little hamster foot touches the ground and you suddenly become a human being and you think, there is more. I always knew it. There is more. But that actually doesn't make sure that this person wants to do it because the foot goes into the hamster wheel.
Yeah, I was going to say, it could scare them to death. I don't know if I can live out here or whatever. I know the devil you knew What you know versus the unknown, right?
Yes. And I can tell you, this person has about 13 different hamster wheels parallel to each other, has made them very cushiony, but he says, it's freaking me out. I, as a hamster, am running between the 13 projects all the time, all the time. And I said, yeah, that would stop. You would suddenly be able to leave that hamster wheel system. Which actually condemns you to become a hamster and be a hamster. Imagine how painful that must be to be a hamster when you actually know your soul tells you you're a human being. You're meant for greatness. You're not meant here to be the person who makes millions for somebody else who refuses to listen to its soul and makes you its slave. And yes, pays you nicely, $300,000, $500,000. There's a price. Yeah, the price you get paid. And when you get paid— Understood that.
But when they're buying, what they're buying is your soul. So they paid you $300,000, they bought your soul, and you sold your soul for $300,000.
Yes. That's exactly it.
Yeah.
That's exactly it. And I tell you, the soul starts out, and I tell you from experience, the soul starts out as a wee little voice. And if Markus didn't listen, guess what happened? It grew into a bullhorn I could not ignore anymore. And guess what? I became ill.
Yeah.
And I had one dream one night, Ilan, which shocked me so much. I saw my soul as a little boy standing next to a tree. With a little axe and started hitting it and wanting it to fall. And I asked, hey, stop. What are you doing? He said, Markus, you don't leave me a choice. Either you destroy me or I have to destroy you. And that's when I woke up and I said, okay, message received. You know how many people suffer from shoulder pain, neck pain, headache, all sorts of tissue pain, nerve pain? That's exactly it. So I went to see a doctor and the doctor said to me, you know what, sir? Picture this. Here are nerves, right? So he went to, let's say, this much away from my skin here. And I was yelling in pain. And he said, I haven't even touched you. I said, yeah, it's enough. So he went to the nerves here and just went close to it. And I stood up in pain. And he said, sir, your nerve system is absolutely laid bare. Either you stop or you end up in a wheelchair. That was the wake-up call back then. And I wish that the people who listen to us do not have to go that far. But they will. I can tell you, they will.
They will, because your soul's never going to give up. And you can wait till you die, or— you're right. I love the tree example. So this has been really good. We're just— we're to the end of our time. And I'm really grateful that we have another opportunity to talk on my other show.
Of course we do. Yeah.
Yeah, because there's so much more of this I want to explore. And that's beautiful. So is there any final words you'd like to give
There's basically only one answer to everyone. Yes, there is more.
