Hi there, it's Mark Wickersham. And in this video I want to share with you 7 powerful ways to become the sought after expert. What does that mean? Well, simply being seen as being the expert in your industry so that the ideal clients, those clients that you want to work with, they want to work with you. You get clients queuing up to work with you because you're seen as being the expert. You're seen as being better and different to all the other accounting and bookkeeping firms in your community. So let me take you through the seven different ways, and the first of those, which is one of the most powerful, and I would strongly recommend you consider this, is to write a book or ebook. Now, I know what you're thinking. I can't possibly write a book. I'm an accountant, I'm a bookkeeper. When am I going to find the time to write a book? Well, it doesn't have to be a book. It could be an E book, a digital book. And the thing is, in this day and age, the technology exists to make it so easy to do. In fact, I teach a process which is how can you write a hardback book in less than 7 hours? Many firms I've worked with are now starting to do exactly that. So it is possible. You can write a book, you can become an author, and when you've written a book, you will be seen as being the expert in your field. Whether that's tax planning, whether that's business growth, cloud accounting, whatever it is, you'll be seen as being the expert and you'll win more business when you have a book. Here's a second idea, and this is one that there's no excuse not to do. You should have a regular blog. You should post blog posts on a regular basis. And regular is the key word here. Don't write an article, a blog once, and then forget for six months. That won't establish any credibility. You need to have a system for posting at least once every month, like clockwork, and ideally every fortnight or even better, every single week on your chosen field of excellence, whether that's tax planning, business growth, whatever.
And that doesn't have to be hard. What you don't do is try to write a blog post every week or every month because stuff crops up and gets in the way. Instead, you batch it, you write a year's worth in one go, and then you get somebody in your team to post them according to your desired schedule. Here's a third thing that you should consider doing, if you don't already and that's speaking at events. And after writing a book, I think this is the second most powerful. When you stand on stage and address an audience and share your passion, your knowledge, they will see you as being the expert. I know of many accounting firms and bookkeepers that do exactly this. And they tell me it's by far and away the best way of winning new business. So if you haven't started on that journey yet of speaking at events, which might sound scary, but everything's scary the first time we do it, it gets easier and easier, and when you do it, you'll win so much business. The fourth idea for you is webinars. And what I love about webinars is technology makes it so easy. Unlike an event, you don't have to find a venue, you don't have to worry about filling the venue up. You don't have to worry about the cost of a venue. It's all online. It's so easy. So if you haven't yet run a webinar, I strongly recommend it. It's one of the best ways to be seen as being an expert. When you teach people, when you share your knowledge. It's also a great platform to build up your followers and a great platform for selling, even if selling is simply the offer of a meeting with you so you can share and explain how you can help them with their business. Next, we have video marketing. If you've not started this journey yet, it's widely regarded as being the number one form of marketing, has been for the last half a dozen years. We've seen the growth of YouTube and after all, Google bought YouTube for an obscene amount of money because Google saw video as being the future. We've seen Facebook following suit. Facebook now want you to put videos on Facebook because it's the most powerful form of marketing. So you absolutely should be doing this because we're in a relationship business. The reason why your clients are clients of you is because of you. It's not because of how you bind your tax returns or your accounts. It's because of the relationship with you. And the great thing about video is you get the opportunity to get across your personality, your passion, your enthusiasm, your energy.
Next, we have the power of stories. And what this means is that you should be collecting systematically success stories from your clients. Anywhere, any situation where a client's got a great result because of something that you've done. You help them save tax, you help them grow their business, reduce their overdraft, collect that story and share it with the world. Because if you're the accounting professional that's sharing stories of differences that you've made to people's lives. People will see you as being the must have accountant or bookkeeper. They'll be wanting to work with you too. And the last idea is podcast. Thanks to Apple and itunes, it's now very easy to do a podcast. And if you're doing a blog, for example, you can take that blog content and you can audio record it and that's your podcast. So you can get two for the price of one. You write a blog post, you record it and you have a podcast as well. And that's a great way of again building a list of followers and getting people to see you as being the expert. And a quick bonus whilst we're on this list, it's a kind of number 7A if you like Video is so powerful. But even more so we've seen over the last few couple of years the huge growth in going live live video. It started with YouTube and Google Hangouts and then we saw Periscope which was bought by Twitter and we've now seen Facebook has launched Facebook Live. Going live and teaching stuff gets your message out to the world. If you found this video valuable please please do hit the like button below. I would love to.
