ChatGPT's Plugins: Navigating Challenges & Opportunities for Accountants

Emily Cross demonstrates ChatGPT's new web browsing and plugins on a live webinar, showing how accountants can use tools like Wolfram Alpha and Zapier. She walks through real limitations: plugins often fail on redirects, hit message caps, and can only run three per conversation. For accountants, the practical wins are narrow but real.

Okay, let's get started. Today we're going to be looking at ChatGPT and plugins. We are live. However, I won't be doing this session today. It's special guest, the amazing Emily Cross, who's our in house head of marketing but she's also a huge expert on ChatGPT and she's been spending weeks playing with the plugins and coming up one of the best, the best things for you. And also I'm actually not here right now because I'm just wrapping up a webinar that I am running. So I will be back to be commenting in the comments box. I'll answer questions and so on. So let me hand over to the amazing Emily Cross. Emily, over to you.
Okay, thanks for that, Mark. So I've just seen a few more comments coming into the chat box. I just want to answer this one from Sarah. She says, I signed up for the upgrade for ChatGPT. It doesn't give me the option to web browse. So the, the web browsing and the plugin features are in beta, beta mode. So you might not have access to it yet. It kind of rolled them out steadily but if you just keep checking and I'll show you today how to access them as well and we'll see if you don't have access to them yet already and just maybe you've not realized it.
So in today's session we're going to be looking at ChatGPT. We're going to be looking at the new features that they rolled out just a few weeks ago, the web browsing and the plugins feature. Really excited about the potential for these. They're having some teething problems because they are quite new and like I just said, they are still in beta mode, beta mode. So we're gonna explore a couple of the, the best ones that I found and some weaknesses and some strengths and other such stuff. I'm also going to talk to you about some of the latest updates in the chat, GPT and AI world because it's constantly moving at such a rapid speed that it's nice sometimes to just have a bit of a recap of all the various things that are going on. So I'm going to go over for those, those with you just in a second as well. Just before we get started though, I do want to tell you about the project that we have with B1G1. So we work with B1G1 and what that means is that whenever people attend our live events, we are able to make a contribution to a Charity on your behalf, not at your expense, just by you being here means that we can donate. So thank you for being here today because it means that we can make a donation. And this month's project, we've just gone into June, so our project for this month is we are buying bricks for school infrastructure projects. So that's a great project. And we will be donating to them over the course of June based on all of the events that you guys attend. So thank you very much for being here. It allows us to do that. We do also have just one other announcement, in case you are not aware. We are running a business advisory masterclass from June 13th to 15th this month. So that is about how to value, price your business advisory service, how to deliver it, how to make it really valuable, how to sell it, how to price it. And we're also going to be looking at how you can use ChatGPT and maybe other AI models to improve your business advisory service and how you can make the most of Chat GBT with business advisory as well. We're going to be doing a couple of sessions. I know Mark's doing a session and I myself am also doing a session on ChatGPT and business advisory as well as a couple of other marketing related sessions as well. So if you don't already, if you've not already signed up, then I think Sarah's going to put the link in the chat for us and you can go and grab your free ticket. It's free by the way, but the price will go up on the day of the conference. So make sure you grab your ticket sooner rather than later to make sure you do get that free ticket. Okay, so that's it for the announcements. We can go ahead and get started with the content. So the first thing that I'm going to go over is some of the latest updates in the ChatGPT and AI world. They're constantly doing new things and what we're starting to see now is at this point in the sort of AI race is one kind of company releases something and the other one comes back with something else. And they're kind of constantly one upping each other and coming out with new things to try and stay on top in this rapidly changing market of the, of the AI landscape. So a lot of the things that we're seeing is from particularly Google and Bing or Microsoft. So these are the two kind of top competitors in the area. And we're also seeing other models come out as well. So obviously Chat GBT is part of, well, has been Funded by Microsoft. They put $10 billion into ChatGPT and open AI. So that's where Microsoft and Bing are. And Google has Bard has its own version of the large language model. And there are also other ones coming out. So there's one called Claude by Anthropic, I think it's called, and Alibaba in China are starting to really promote theirs as well. So there are lots of different ones coming out all over the place. What we're starting to see now as well is a lot of different apps using ChatGPT or similar models, plugins and different programs all using ChatGPT or something or one of the similar programs. And we're starting to see a lot of stuff being produced. There is a lot of duplication. So you might see one thing in. In one program or product, one company is doing it one way and another company's doing it a slightly different way, but it's essentially the same thing. So I think now it's starting to become kind of a game of allegiance of which kind of program you want to go with. I still do believe that ChatGPT has the edge on giving you more fleshed out answers, you know, if you're going to it to get long written answers. I still do think ChatGPT is the best one and the others have got some catching up to do, but they are catching up at a really fast rate. So it's very interesting to stay on top of this and see what's happening in the landscape. So a couple of actual updates from ChatGPT itself.
In the platform. Now, if you log into ChatGPT, they have added an update where you can now share your conversation links, which I found really useful. Earlier in the week I filmed a video using one of the conversations and I then passed it on to have a workbook make made from it. But rather than take screenshots of all the conversations, I could just send the link to the conversation over to Tasha, who did the workbooks for us. So that was really useful. It meant that I could just share that and I'll just quickly show you in the platform where that is now. So if you go over to the left hand side where you can see all of your conversations, if you just click into.
One of the conversations, you've got these three icons. So the one on the left is the pencil that can change, change the name of the conversation for you and you've got the delete icon on the right. And now in the middle we have this new feature and if you click that, it's Going to generate a link so that you can share your conversation. So it shows you here, it just displays the conversation and what you're going to share. And then you can come down to this big green button here on the bottom and copy the link. You can then send that over to somebody else. You can also at this point edit the name of the conversation. If you want to call it something else, you can choose to share it anonymously or add your name to it. So a couple of options there that you can do. And just as well, if you come down to the Settings tab down here in the bottom, click the three dots and then we're going to click Settings. In the data control section, we now have this option here for shared links and we can click Manage next to Shared Links. And that's going to show me all of the links that I've created so far. I can delete them, I can grab a copy of them. So that was loading a bit slow there. So we have all of the links that I've made so far. These are just the conversations that I've sent to people and I can grab the link from there or I can delete it, or I can hover over this option here and delete them all if I want to. So.
That'S the latest feature that's added, quite useful if you want to share your conversations with other people. And by the way, they don't have to have ChatGPT because it opens it in a new browser. So it just shows them the conversation. So that is one update that ChatGPT itself have done and another update that's kind of interesting, I think, anyway, I'm a little bit of a nerd about this is they have. Sam Altman has done a lot of work on trying to get regulations in place and, and rules and laws. And one of the things that they're doing to try and keep ChatGPT ethical and in to serve the public as much as possible, rather than it being this private thing that OpenAI do and then just release as they want to. They are now doing what they're calling democratic input. So, so they are hiring teams of people to have conversations with ChatGPT and offer differing opinions. So I checked this out on its website. What it's now doing is it's going to hopefully be able to give you different clusters of opinions on a certain subject. So the example that it gave in here, which is on the ChatGPT website, is should, should AI be able to align with users tastes and preference in terms of. I think it's talking about alcohol and substance use if it's legal in that country. So maybe a bit of a controversial topic. And there's two clusters of thought here. There's people who say AI shouldn't be able to talk about those things because they're harmful. And there's some people that say we should have free choice and we should be able to be advised on those subjects if it's legal. So an interesting point. And they are starting to hire all these sorts of teams to do these ethical sort of training of the model so that hopefully in the future it's going to have much more better responses for you. Another update just from chatgpt as well is that there is now an an app on Apple. So if you are an Apple user, if you have an iPhone, you can get the app directly onto your phone. So if you want to get that, I make sure, I would make sure that you go to the App Store and look for the ChatGPT app specifically by OpenAI because there are a few kind of false ones out there or ones that are not quite the same, but they are using ChatGPT. But if you want the actual direct app that is now available and you can grab that for off the App Store.
And Then finally from ChatGPT eventually, it's not out yet, but they are going to be releasing something called Code Interpreter. So we did get web browsing and we got plugins and another one we're going to get is Code Interpreter. And that's just going to really boost the ability that you can do with all the code. If you are a coding nerd and that's something that you really want to be able to do, then that's going to be really interesting for you.
I'm just going to have a quick look at the chat box. I think some people are not hearing me very well.
But the sound is clear for some people. So.
Hopefully, hopefully you can hear me. I will just try and shout up a bit. Okay.
So the next updates then. We've looked at ChatGPT. I also want to just tell you a little bit about the kind of race that is happening now between Google and Bing because they've both released a couple of new things recently. So if we look at Google first, Google are wanting to. They are eventually going to update their search engine. So Bing has already done this. If you are a Bing user or you've been using Bing since the update with ChatGPT, you'll notice that on the sidebar of Bing There is a ChatGPT direct input and you can access generative AI answers direct from the browser. Google are going to do something very similar. They're going to have so that when you type your question in, it's going to. The first thing that comes up is going to be a generative AI response that summarizes the information for you so that you don't have to scroll through lots of blogs or websites to get your answer. You can get your answer right up there at the top. So from a user perspective, that's really cool and it's really exciting. From an SEO perspective, it's maybe going to be a challenge for those people that have worked really hard to get themselves up on the SEO rankings. On Google, there's going to be a new landscape because they've been pushed down the page a little bit, but there are going to be. We're going to see what it's going to look like, and there will hopefully be new ways of getting yourself noticed. So Google are going to do that soon. And Bard, which is Google's kind of version of ChatGPT now, can respond with images as well, which is an interesting update. And finally, the thing that I think is relevant to you guys is Google Workspace is going to incorporate generative AI right into the workspace as well. So if you're a Google user and you use Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Calendar and Gmail and all of these kinds of tools, and you use all of them together in Google Workspace, it's going to build generative AI directly into those areas. So that if, for example, you're writing something on a Google Doc, you can click a button that brings generative AI into the scene and you can ask it to do something, and it's going to edit your text for you, it's going to help you write better emails, it's going to help you format your Excel sheets and things like that, it's going to help you do things directly from the programs that you're using in Google. Rather than going to ChatGPT and then copying it across, it's going to be direct there in the service. Okay, so that's Google's updates and Bing have got quite a few similar ones. What they are doing is on Windows 11. So if you are a PC user, and I can't vouch very much for this because I am a Mac user, but what they are going to do is in Windows 11, they're going to add a sidebar so that if you want to do anything on your computer, like for example, you want to Change to dark mode or find a certain file. You can just type it into your sidebar what you want to do. And you'd be able to click a button and do that straight away really quickly. It's going to have a code input right there on the side of your screen. So if you're a PC user, that might be something that's really interesting to you. Another update from Bing and Microsoft is that the plugins that they have now added to ChatGPT are going to also be available right from the browser, from the Bing browser. So you don't have to necessarily go into ChatGPT. You can do it from the Bing browser as well, which is going to be quite useful. And finally, they have a, a program coming out that's rivaling this Google Workspace, which, which is their version, which is Copilot. So if you're using Microsoft documents, PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheets, all of those sorts of things, if you're using Outlook for your emails and your calendar, then Copilot is the same version of Google Workspace, essentially where you can straight from your document, hit this generative AI button and it's going to help you edit your documents, give you better text, improve your text, write nice emails for you, whatever it is that you want it to do. So a lot of potential coming from these different areas and it's going to be exciting to see how those things actually work in practice when, when we get them. The thing that I'm kind of struggling with is picking a side because I have, I use Gmail, but I use Microsoft Office for documents and PowerPoint and things like that. So if you want to have everything all in one space, then it is a case of picking a side at the minute. So those are some of the updates. There's also a couple of cool things, but I'll just whiz over them because Google Maps now has a 3D version where you're essentially like a drone and you can fly around and look, which is really cool. I had a play around on that, that was really cool. And there's also. Now if you are, if you're somebody who uses Photoshop quite a lot, then Adobe Photoshop have added AI to that where essentially you can extend the photo and hit generative AI and it will fill that gap with, you know, it seamlessly. It will make it look like part of a picture, but it will just make it up for you. Or you can ask to, you know, it's got a picture of a sky, you can ask it to put an airplane in the sky and it will do it for you really, really well. So just some interesting things there as well. So that's it for updates. It took quite a while because there's quite a lot of updates. But I want to move on now to plugins. Let me just have a quick look at the chat. Yeah, some people having some sound issues. I'll. I'll try and do my best for you guys. So, plugins, first of all, I want to address some of the weaknesses and some of the issues that I've had. So I've been playing with plugins for the past two weeks, since they came out, since they were released on, on my.
On my chatgpt platform. As soon as I found them, I started playing with them. And there's been some really good things and there've been some frustrating things as well. They don't always work and there are some limitations. So, first of all, with the web browsing feature, it's important to know that some websites can block your ChatGPT from looking at it, because ChatGPT is a bot. So some websites can have bot restrictions. And therefore, if you want it to go away and do some research and it tries to look at a certain website, it might not be able to look at it because it is being blocked because it is a robot. Okay, so sometimes that is why the links fail if you've ever used it, and I'll show you what it looks like now, but if you've ever used it, it might say it's looking at a link and then the click has failed. So that just means that it's not been able to read that page. And then sometimes I've noticed as well that the link can fail if there are things on the page like a redirect. So we have a main sales page for our Value Pricing Academy, which is open only for two weeks during the year. So when it's closed, there is an automatic redirect put in place. Now, when I asked ChatGPT to use the web browsing feature to look at the open page, it couldn't find it because there was a redirect in place. So things like that, you need to be a little bit careful of that. It's not going to be able to read those pages.
In terms of the plugins, a couple of limitations are that you can only use three plugins at any one time in any conversation. You have to choose them at the start of your conversation. So you have to know what you're going to use, what you need to ask it, and Kind of pre. Prepare that conversation so that you can pick the right plugins and then if halfway through the conversation you think, oh, I could have done with this plugin, instead you can't change it. You have to start a new conversation with that plugin attached. Okay, so you can only use three and you need to make sure that you choose them right from the start. Another frustrating thing that I found is that there's very limited guidance on how to actually use these prompts. Now, that is, for the most part, it's because a lot of these prompts, ChatGPT should just know automatically, instinctively to use it in order to answer a question. If a plugin is enabled and you've got a link reader, for example, and you give it a chunk of text and you want it to look at a link and it will just automatically know to do that so you don't have to instruct it on how to use the plugins. There are a couple where you need to put a certain word in there, but essentially there's very little guidance. You just install it and it should know how to do it. Sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it does. I'm also struggling with, sometimes the plugins don't work for me and I think that's a capacity issue. I think it's still in, in beta mode and it's being tested. So sometimes it will just say that there is an error and it can't do it. And I get that message quite a lot. We also have the issue that there is a cap on the amount of messages that you can put, which is 25. And so somebody like me who uses it all day, every day, that 25, I reached that pretty quickly and I then have to wait another three hours before I can use it again. So if you are using plugins and you need to make sure you've got the right plugins selected first so that the conversation that you do, you're going to maximize those 25 messages that you get so that you don't need to go and restart the conversation and use up extra messages.
But something that I did work out as well is that in if you use the Bing browser and you use bing, which uses ChatGPT to, if you, if you go to there and ask it to write your blog or write your paragraph or write you an email, you can do it direct from the browser and you get, I think, five free goes and you don't have to have your chatgpt attached. So the, the downside is that it doesn't save your Conversations because it's not within your chatgpt. But if you just want to write a quick paragraph, write a quick email, you can go to the Bing browser and you get a free 5 extra messages on there, I believe. So that might just be a great way.
Somebody asks Klsimmer asks, are the plugins available for the free version? No, not currently. So you do have to pay it's $20 plus tax, I think, or £20 plus tax a month, which is a pretty good price for what you get from it. And that gives you access to the GPT4 model, which is the newer and improved model. It gives you priority access, supposedly, although I am finding that it's over capacity quite a lot of the time as well. But it does give you priority access to over the free users and also it gives you access to new features that are released. You get those before anyone else. So we have the web browsing and the new beta plugins feature and also the conversation links feature as well. That is all on the paid version.
So we've talked a bit about, we've talked about the updates, we talked a bit about the weaknesses. Now I want to actually show you some of the plugins and the web browsing in action. So we're going to start by showing you first of all how to actually access these. So if I just go to this slightly extended screen.
What I'm going to do is I'm going to go over to the top here and start a new chat.
And they recently added this kind of toggle option. So if you just want a really quick answer or you're doing a quick bit of research and you're happy for GPT to access its data banks of information rather than go to the Internet for it, or you just want a really quick answer, then I would Recommend you use 3.5 because it doesn't use up those that limit of messages and it's really quick. However, if you want a more fully fleshed out answer, like you're maybe writing a large brochure or a blog post or something, and you want it to be a bit more complicated, then I would say to go with GPT, you can use the default version. Now, if you want to use the browser, then this is where you choose it. So you have to choose this at the start of the conversation.
If you start the chat and you haven't selected these, you cannot add it later on. You have to add it at the start of the conversation. So if I just choose here, browse with Bing.
I now have access to the browsing feature and I can just ask it a message. So we'll see how it does. I've asked it questions previously, so I do have.
I do have some questions ready to go just in case it doesn't allow me to do this because I do find that sometimes it, it just struggles, it's overwhelmed. So here I asked it, can you give a summary of the Sheffield Wednesday game? So if there's any football fans from in the uk? I'm not a. I'm not a massive football fan, but there was a big game. So let's do browse with Bing.
Can you tell me the result of the Sheffield.
Wednesday game on Monday? Let's see how it does. So sometimes I find that it doesn't click on the right link or it struggles. It seems to be doing it. This is what you'll see, by the way. So you can see this little green option. It's telling you what it's doing and if I just click that little drop down button, it's going to tell me exactly what it's doing as it's doing it. So it searched for the term Sheffield Wednesday game result May 29, 2023. So it's looked on, it's reading the content, it's looked on the website and it's finished and it's now summarizing that answer for me. It's telling me that the game ended with a defeat of Barnsley 1 nil. So that's quite a brief answer. Something new that they haven't added recently as well is this citation feature. So if I just hover over that little one, that is the link to where it's gone and got that research from. So if I wanted to go and verify that and check the website myself, I can click on that little link and it will take me to the website and I can look directly and make sure that that's right.
So let me just show you a couple of other things that I did on the web browsing fe.
Just wait whilst it loads.
So that was the first thing I asked and it did originally. It gave me quite a complex answer here and in here as well. If I just click on that drop down, you can see the link here as well. So it didn't give it me on that one I've just done. But it does normally give you the link here as well, so that you can see which sites it's visited to get the answer that it's given you. So I then asked it, can you give me a summary of this webpage and give Me the top three reasons I should join the Value Pricing Academy. So this is the webpage for our, our Value Pricing Academy and I asked it to summarize it and then give me a few great reasons. So it did a pretty good job, I would say. It gave me some information. It said the program is led by Mark Wickersham, Amazon number one bestseller. It's aimed at accountants and bookkeepers who and it focuses on value pricing. So at the time of browsing it was at maximum capacity, which as I mentioned earlier, we do close that page. Whilst we are focusing on giving value to the members, we close that page and then we open it for a few weeks in the year. So when it looked at it it was at maximum capacity. But it did tell me about the other option to join the Profitable Growth Academy, which if you're interested, that is where we are adding a lot of our ChatGPT training. So it's just our lower level membership, it's got ChatGPT training in there and we're constantly adding new videos and workbooks and resources and stuff. So if that's something you're interested in, I think Sarah might put the link in for us. But back to the response here. So I asked it for the top three reasons to join and it mentioned that you get value pricing training. You get over seven hours of training, which is great. It gave me an interesting second answer here which was myth busting, which if you look on the website, there is a little section on there about how we break those myths.
It maybe wouldn't be one of the reasons I pick as the top three but it's interesting nonetheless. And then it gave me kind of two in one here where we've got community and resources. So the community is great. You can join the Facebook group, you've got access to all the other accountants and learn a lot from each other. And the resources is great. It's got lots of pre made workbooks and different sort of brochures and things that you can use. So that's what I would have kind of said in the top three and it has given me those in some way. So that's a pretty useful answer I would say from the web browsing feature here. I then also asked it to just give a summary of another one of our pages. We're doing the, I mentioned right at the start, we're doing the business advisory masterclass. So asked it to look at that page and give me a rundown. Now when I did it this time it actually really struggled. So it's not Very consistent in the way it searches. So it did a really great job on the Wednesday game. It did a really great job on the value pricing sales page. I now gave it another page to look at and it went and looked at that page specifically and then it started looking at every single other page on our website. You can see how many pages it clicked on here and it was really struggling. So sometimes it said the reading, reading the content was failed. So it didn't manage to read that page.
And then it finished its browsing and it gave me a summary and it said it summarized based on what it assumed to be the right answer. It didn't actually read the page and give me the information from the page. So it kind of based on the other pages it looked at on my website, on the Wickersham website.
It kind of made a guess of what the Business Advisory Masterclass might include and it's fairly accurate. It's a pretty good guess. It says you'll learn about value pricing, you'll learn how to structure and price your business advisory services and you'll learn how to deliver advisory services, which is, yes, you will learn all of those things. Now, it did add something here at the end about you'll get access to tools and templates to assist you. Now, if you are in, if you do join us on the Advisory Masterclass, we will be giving you bonus resources and stuff whilst you are there live. So if you do want to join, it's a great reason to join. However, this is not something that's mentioned anywhere on the on the web page. So it clearly hasn't used that web page to give this answer. It's just kind of made it up based on the other pages. It's looked at where we do talk about giving resources in our academy training and things like that. So it's taken the information from various different places and made up an answer. So you do have to be really, really careful when you use this feature. And the best thing to do is with this citation thing is, is to click on the link and go and check and have a look for yourself. Because it might just be that you find better information by physically looking at it rather than. Rather than doing it this way.
So that's. So that's the web browsing feature and that's how it works. It's a little bit hit and miss. Sometimes you get a great response, sometimes not. I would say as well that whilst this is a great feature to have directly in ChatGPT, you can also go to Bing directly and search that way and it's still going to give you a generative AI answer. And when Google add this new search feature as well, they're also going to be able to, you'll also be able to go to Google, ask for these sorts of things and you'll get that generative AI answer. You'll get that summarized version of the, the football game or whatever it is that you're searching for. You'll get that summarized version.
When they've released it. So Bing already has that and Google is working on releasing that soon. But if you wanted to be able to ask it to do multiple things at once. So for example, you're working in ChatGPT, you turn the web browsing feature on and you say can you do me some research on, on. On this industry, on the prices of this industry? For example, you're doing some research for a business advisory client and you ask it to go and do the research on the web and then can you turn that into a blog article or a report or something that I can feed back to the client? So it might be that you use it in combination with, in that instance it's better to use it in ChatGPT rather than going do it on the browser and then pulling the information forward. So you know, it just definitely does have its use when it works properly in ChatGPT.
So that is the web browser. I'll now show you a couple of different plugins. So I have mentioned that it doesn't always work perfectly but we'll give it a go and see what it comes up with. And I do have some pre prepared conversations just in case it doesn't want to do it today. So if I go over to here I started a new chat, I'm then going to go over to. Sorry, I'm not sharing my screen with you guys. Here we go. So if I go over to GPT4.
And I now I just, I've just showed you with the browse feature, we're now going to look at the plugins feature and I already have a few selected because I've been using it previously. But when you first do this, it's not going to be there. Oh, and by the way, I'll just show you as well if I just extend my screen here. If you, if you're not seeing the features up here at the top, then it may be that you haven't enabled them in your settings. So if we go over to here to the three dots and we go to settings and we go here to baser features, you can Turn these on here. So this is Browse with Bing and this is plugins. So make sure those are both turned on if you do have access to them, and then they should appear up here at the top for you to be able to use. So when you've got. You've gone here to GPT4, we've selected plugins. We can now choose the actual plugins we want to use. So before you've chosen anything, this will be empty and you'll just see this option here for the plugins store. So if we open that up, there are quite literally hundreds of plugins in here. Oh, and I've just noticed this is completely new. This is completely new since the time of recording, because this is something I was going to mention. I wanted a search feature for these plugins. So they've added that recently, really recently. So there's. There's hundreds of features on here and they've got the popular ones, they've got new ones, they've got all. So if we look at all, you can see how many plugins there are on here, there are hundreds. So it would take you a very long time to go through all of these. And I am interested now to go through. I'm noticing a lot more than when I did my research just this morning. So this new feature that they've added clearly is to search for plugins and hopefully that will help you if you're looking for a specific one. So if we're looking for maybe Zapier. There we go, it's going to bring that up for me. That's really useful. But there's loads in here. So if you wanted to go through, troll through them and have a look and see which ones would be useful for you, then you can do. I'm going to take a few that I've already looked at and show you what you might like to use, what things might be interesting to you. So the first one that I did look at. Let me just switch you over to this larger screen. So the first one that I did look at was called Scraper. And the idea behind this is that it scrapes your website, scrapes the content from your website and then summarizes or a webpage that you give it. So let's say you're looking at something on your government's website about some new tax legislation and you don't want to read the whole thing. So you can give it the URL and say, can you summarize this web page for me? Now you can do that on the web browsing feature, it would do the same thing for you. But if you were wanting to use it in conjunction with some plugins and you didn't want to opt to have the web browser and not the plugins because you have to choose one or the other, then here's a couple of ways that you can do that. So I use the scraper tool and I gave it this page. Now, the first page I gave it was a link to our ChatGPT ebook. So if you don't have our ebook, then Sarah might put the link in there for us and you can go and. Go ahead and grab that. But I gave it the link to the, the page and asked it to summarize the key points and it did pretty well. So it says, this is a webpage by Mark Wikshu. It discusses the practical uses of ChatGPT for accountants and bookkeepers. And the main points are the use of AI can increase productivity and save hours of time. Yep, that's all on there. The page offers a free guide. Yep, that's on there. And the guide covers the Pivotal role of ChatGPT in the accounting industry. Six practical ways to implement ChatGPT. And the page also encourages visitors to download the guide. So, yeah, that is what the. That is what that page does. It was a really simple, easy page to do. However, I then gave it another page, which again, I just keep giving it our personal pages because I know what's on those pages. And I gave it this page. I gave it the vpa.wikisham.co.uk, which is our sales page, to the Value Pricing Academy. And what it came up with was completely bogus. It was completely made up. So the VPA stands for Value Pricing Academy. Whereas here it's telling me that it is the virtual Personal assistant. So it's completely made it up. It's not just said, I can't read this page. I don't know what this is. It's made something up. So you do have to be so careful when you use these things and definitely always double check, fact check, make sure that what it's doing is correct. Because what it made up here was completely, it was just made up. So I told it, that's totally wrong. And it had another go and it just gave me the same information over and over again. So it really did not know what it was doing. I then asked it to look at a different website.
I did say, I said to it, at some point, I said, if you do not know the answer, just tell me that you do not Know, do not make something up. And it doesn't matter if you tell it that it's still gonna make stuff up. So you do have to be really careful.
I gave it this other page. So I gave it the page to our registration page for the business advisory masterclass and it did a perfect job. It gave me exactly what was on that webpage. So it told me the event details, the dates, the price of the ticket, the purpose of it, the content. It's clearly read that page and summarized everything perfectly for me. So it's really inconsistent, these plugins and I think that is partially because this is new. It's a, it's a beta feature, it's still learning, it's still teething. So you just have to be really careful when you use these. So that is the scraper tool. Now I've actually used a couple of different ones and then I'm going to give you one that is the best one that actually summarizes a couple of different ones altogether. So that's the scraper tool for reading websites. The other tools that I looked at, there were two. So there was one called chat with PDF and there was another one called ask your PDF. So the first one that I looked at was ask your PDF, thinking these are going to do essentially the same things. So what I asked it was I gave it a link. I gave it a link here to now we use Dropbox to store all of our documents. So I just grabbed a random link from one of the resources that we use and I asked it to give me a summary. Now it really struggled because it didn't have the right form of link. So you need to give it the link in a format that it can actually go ahead and read. And it didn't tell me what that format was. So it did give me this option here to go to a different website, upload my document there, and then grab the document ID and come back to ChatGPT and put it in. But if I wanted to give ChatGPT access to lots and lots of my documents, in order to train it to be some sort of chatbot, maybe for your, a client facing chatbot, and you wanted to feed it lots of your information in order to train it to be a good, good kind of customer service bot, then I don't want to have to go and edit the links for all of this sort of stuff. So that was quite annoying. So I played around, I tried to give it lots of different types of links. It said that this one was just a route to my computer file Now, I'm not a. I'm not a tech whiz in terms of this sort of stuff. So I just said, can you tell me what link you need? I said, I use Dropbox. How can I get you the correct link? And it didn't give me a helpful answer. It said, you can go to Dropbox, you can click copy the link, which is what I was already doing. It then told me to change the ending of it and that didn't really help at all.
So I really struggled with it on this one. Now I then tried the other one, which is chat with PDF.
And straight away it actually gave me the information that I needed. So I pasted the link in there and I said, please can you summarize this content? And it said, I'm really sorry, I can't read that.
But here's how you can change the link. So it recognized that I was using Dropbox and it gave me a different bit here, this DL.Dropbox usercontent.com it said, if you replace the Dropbox.com with this, then I can read it. So it gave me the new link and it said, please try it again with this link. So I did. And then it went ahead and it read it and it summarized it and it did a great job of doing so. So I just gave it this PDF from, from our Marketing Monday session. Compelling headlines that grab attention and it summarized it and it gave me a lot of great stuff. So I then wanted to ask a little bit more information about stuff that was in that document. So I said this, this document was about example headlines, compelling headlines. So I said, can you give me three examples from the document? And it did. It pulls out the actual example and then the reasoning behind that example as well. So grow your profit. Grow your business with the nine drivers of profit. This headline uses the formula benefit plus Curiosity, where the benefit is growing your business. And the curiosity is created by the mention of the nine drivers of profit. So it's given me a nice little summary there of the three examples I asked for. I just asked it a couple of other questions. Who is the author of this document? And they found that out that it Mark Wickersham. I then asked it, what do you know about Mark Wickersham? So here is an example of it doesn't always use the plugin. Sometimes it does resort back to its own knowledge base, its own data that it has stored up until September 2021. So you can still ask it other questions. And it doesn't have to use the plugin all of the time, you can use a combination of its default mode and using the plugins as well. Well, so it gave me some information on Mark Wickham that it already had in its data banks. And it did say that please be aware that this is accurate as of my knowledge cut off in September 2021. I then asked it, can it find me all of the headings in the document? Because I thought sometimes if you're skimming through a document, then just seeing the headings gives you a good idea. And it did that really well. It found a bunch of. A bunch of the headlines, a bunch of the headings even. It did actually also pull through some of the subheads as well, which is not the end of the world. But sometimes that might not be necessarily what you're asking for. And you might need to just clarify a little bit better in your prompt, can you find me the headings but not the subheadings? But it did a pretty good job here of finding all of that information. And that one was called Chat with PDF. Now I've actually found one that kind of does more than that. Um, first I will just show you one other one that I have used, which is called Video Insights. Now there is another one which I think is called Chat with Video, and that one only looks at YouTube videos. This one, video insights, looks at YouTube and Dailymotion videos. So if you give it the link to a video, it's going to be able to watch it and summarize it and give you some information on it. So I gave it here.
The link to a video that I was watching about the Google Workspace that we talked about earlier. And I asked it to summarize this for me and it did. Perfect job. It told me about. Here's what's in this video. The video is titled A New Era for AI and Google Workspace. And it's talking about AI being added into Gmail, Google Docs, Google Slides and all of this stuff. So it summarized the video for me really, really nicely.
This was another one that I tried, which was called Yay Forms. But I did need to have an account. So that's another point is that some of these plugins, you do need to have an account with that particular app to use it. And some of them are inbuilt in Chat GPT and you just hit install and it goes straight onto your computer, onto your chat GPT and you don't need to do anything else. So just be aware of that. Now, I didn't have access to EI Forms because I don't have an account. We use Jotform and sometimes Typeform, which we're going to look at Zapier later. Just quickly we're going to look at Zapier because I've just noticed the time. So we are moving quite quickly. I will speed up. But what it does is I said, can you create a standard feedback form for me? And it gives me a link. I can then click on that link and it's going to open up yay forms or whatever it is you might be using and it will then input that new template directly into there for me. Another one I asked it to do. So this is the, this is the better plugin that I have found. Okay. So the couple of things that I've asked so far is I've wanted it to scrape my website, to give me information. I've wanted it to read PDFs and I've wanted to read videos. Now this one, which is called Link Reader does all of the above. It does it all with one plugin. And considering you can only add three plugins to your conversation, having one that does multiple different things is much better. So I would say to go with this one called Link Reader. And what it does is, you know, I'm not going to go over it again in detail because we've looked at all the other ones. But if you give it that information, if you give it the link to a YouTube video, it's going to, it's going to read it or a daily motion video, it's going to be able to look at that. If you give it the link to your documents, it can read it really well. So I gave it this one here. I gave it the link to our, this is our business advisory ebook and it summarized it perfectly. So it gave me the five steps, which is what you know, the. The guide is the five ingredients to a successful business advisory service and it gave me those five steps. So it did that perfectly. It then perfectly summarized the website that I gave it. It did that nice and with no problems whatsoever. So that's a much better one to use, the link reader. I would suggest you use that. Now I'm going to move on quickly. Another one that I want to mention is called Wolfram Alpha and this is useful if you have any kind of maths based questions that you want to ask it. So really simple to start off with what is 2:2? And it's given me the most extensive answer ever. It's given me the result of 22 is 4 and then it's Given me the typical computation times for humans, which I didn't ask for, but there we go. Now, knowing that ChatGPT is a large language model and it's not very good historic, it's not been very good with maths, it's really great at all sorts of written stuff, but sometimes when you put numbers in there, it can get a little bit confused, it can misread it, it's not great with numbers. So having this plugin means that you can combine it and do mathematical based things and mathematical based questions. So I asked it just a simple conversion, what is 70 kg in stones and pounds? And it gave me that. It also gave me a couple of other answers which I wasn't asking for, but it likes to be very thorough.
It can also grab you images. Now I'm. It did work when I did it and now as you can see, it's this kind of broken link, but it does bring you images as well. So you can ask for an image of a puppy and it will bring that to you as well, which you can then use. You can try these out for yourself, by the way, if you do have the paid version and make sure that they work. Because I am finding that sometimes I come to use it and the plugins don't work and sometimes I use it and they're brilliant. So it is really a bit hit and miss at the minute and I think that's just because it's new. You can check things like the average prices of petrol, of gas, stocks and shares prices, things like that, things that are mathematical based distances, you can look at all sorts of stuff in there. But I suggest you go to the Wolfram Alpha website and look at all of the various things that you can do on there to see if anything of it is of relevance to you. I didn't want to go into too much detail because a lot of the stuff that it's doing is complicated mathematical formulas and chemical equations and stuff, but it can do some great stuff with graphs and stuff as well. So. And for personal use, if you're wanting to look up those sorts of things about where is the distance from here to here and that sort of stuff, then that's a really interesting one to use. So that's Wolfram Alpha. Now the main one that I actually wanted to talk to you about was called Zapier and this is the most powerful one because Zapier speaks to all sorts of other apps. So if you use Zapier, that connects to over a thousand apps, if not more. And if you can get it? If you add it as your plugin in ChatGPT, then you can now connect ChatGPT to all of those other thousand apps. So here's an example of what I asked it to do. I wanted it to watch a video.
Then use the, use the content of that video to write five tweets. So this is an example. You can use it for social media, putting your social media content out there.
It made me these five tweets. It did it perfect. Put the link in there and then it said, now let's schedule these tweets to go out one per day using zapier. So it then gives me a link. Now I can't show you this at the minute because what I think is happening is I think there's either some sort of timeout or cut off for these links to work, or there's something not working correctly because if I now click on this link, it's going to say 404 error. But when I did it, it did work perfectly. I promise you, it did work perfectly the first time I did it. And what it does is when I click that link, it opens up a window in zapier. So it opens up a brand new tab and it shows you it setting up that zap and it shows you the process and it gets you to add any other details that you need to add. So what it did was I wanted it to schedule those five tweets, one each day. And.
It kind of did it, but I had to input the data myself, so I had to combine it with a Google sheet. I had to put the tweets into a Google sheet and then ask it to read that sheet and then, and then schedule from that sheet. Okay, but the way it did it was great. You have to connect your Zapier account. And just so you know, when you do that, you might be asked to add two factor authentication, which all that means is ChatGPT is going to give you a QR code. You can go and add a two factor Authentic, an authenticator app on your phone and scan it. And that just means every time you log in, it's going to send you a code to that app so that you can log in. So that is going to happen if you, if you add zapier. But if you add your account and then make sure that in zapier all your other accounts are added. So your Twitter, your, your Google sheets, you can use it for email. So we have mailchimp in there, we have me, Edgar, which is our scheduling tool, all sorts of things in there. It's really, really interesting. So I also asked if it could help me. So that was to do with tweets. I also asked if it could do emails for me and I said, can you send an email out to my list in mailchimp using Zapier? And it did. So it, it, it. Well, it didn't send it out because I, I had to ask that is that as well. It doesn't just do it automatically. It sets up the zap and you have to go in and then switch it on. So it's not just going to immediately do it. It does give you a chance to, to verify it and check it beforehand. But it set up the campaign.
Sent it to the right audience, set up to the right audience that I wanted and then it said it can also then help me craft the content for that as well. So a lot of great things that it can do with Zapier. So we have to kind of rush through that one. Let me just have a quick look at the chat box to just check there isn't any more questions.
Okay, there's no questions yet. So I will just, I will just quickly summarize a little bit more on this APS stuff. So.
What it does is it is it gives you this link and let's see actually if it's going to take me to an error page. No, it's not. Okay, it's working, which is great. So this is what it does. It takes you to this page. Hopefully you can see that. Let me just see if I can zoom in a little bit for you guys.
There we go. So it tells you what it's going to do in Zapier, it shows you the action that it's going to do. So this action is to send a campaign and you need to connect the right account. So when you connect your Zapier account, as long as all of your other accounts within Zapier are also connected, so whatever it is you're using, your mailing, your calendar, your social media, all your different social media platforms, all of those sorts of things. If you have, we use Kajabi, so that's in there. Use Stripe, so maybe that might be in there. Your financial stuff, as long as all of that's in there, then you just need to make the one connection to Zapier and it will do it for you.
And then.
This is what it looks like. It shows you what it looks like. You can then add your account and then once you've added the account, you can say enable action. And that means it's going to go and do it. So it's going to go and make the zap official and, and, and, and follow out that order. So one of the things that it does do is.
You do have to input the data yourself. So I mentioned earlier about the Google Google sheets. So if you wanted to add tweets, then you make a Google sheet with all of the tweets listed, then you can make a zap for it to read the Google sheet and then make a zap for it to send them out one every day. So you can do a similar thing here with the, with the email content as well. So let me just scroll back out and look over here.
So Zapier is going to be a really, really powerful one. And if there's any tool that you're using, you know we use Mailchimp, but maybe you're using HubSpot or AWeber or one of these various different other emailing services. As long as you have Zapier, then you have that connection to ChatGPT now. So you can make that connection and you can go away, have a play with it. There's hundreds of thousands of different apps on there that you can go and play with. Let me just have a look at this question. Somebody asks, are there plugins for financial tasks, analysis, planning and visuals? So I don't know if you saw earlier the amount of plugins that there are in here and I will be spending a lot more time now that I've seen all of the new ones that they've added. So let me just come here. So it's, it's the plugin store and it gives you a little bit of a summary of each one. So am I zoomed in there?
Anyway, it gives you a little bit of a summary so you can kind of flick through them. And now that they've added this search feature, maybe if I just type in financial it might give me. Yeah, that's, so that's something that I wanted. This search feature, if I type in financial, it's going to bring me up ones that are finance based. If I type in, I know there's a couple about housing, so it's going to bring me up one about the housing market. I know there's some about travel, so a couple there about planning your trip, all sorts of stuff. So this, this search feature is really, really helpful. But you can go away and check them all out. There's so many in there that it's worthwhile just finding the ones that are relevant to you and then going and testing them.
So I think that's it for all of the questions.
Hopefully that's been really useful for you today. We are on the hour so I'm going to wrap it up there. Just a reminder that we do have the business advisory masterclass on June 13th to 15th, so if you want to sign up, the tickets are free right now but they are going to go up in price when we do begin on the 13th, so make sure you grab your free ticket straight away. We're going to be talking a lot about ChatGPT and how you can use it for business advisory as well. So really, really useful if you want to join. It's completely free.
I hope this has all been valuable for you guys. I have done an alright job on. This was my first live stream by myself, but I do know Mark's here so hopefully I've done all right and I will let you guys all go and get on with your evening. If you do have any questions about Chat GPT, feel free to join our Facebook group, Chat GPT and AI for accountants and bookkeepers. We're always in there, we're always answering questions, sharing our prompts, sharing our, our ways of using it. We do also have training in the profitable growth Academy on ChatGPT. We've got workbooks and videos. You know, I filmed like five videos, about three hours worth of content the other day, just myself and there's all the stuff that Mark's done as well, so there's loads of stuff in there if you do want to access that. It's the, the profitable growth academy but I'll leave it there for you guys. Hopefully you've all had found value in this and we will be doing I'm sure a lot more live streams on ChatGPT in the future to keep you updated on all the latest stuff. Thanks everybody and have a great weekend.
