Mark Wickersham explains that ChatGPT isn't intelligent, just predicting the next most likely word based on patterns. Give it at least five examples when you want it to write something like headlines, so it can detect what you're actually asking for.

Give it five examples of great headlines. Why? Well, large language models like ChatGPT, they work based on probability. They basically just predict what is the next word in the sequence. They are not intelligent, okay? They are not intelligent. They simply just have a huge amount of data and they work on probabilities. What is the next most likely word in the sequence? It's as simple as that. So they look for patterns. Giving examples is powerful because they look for the patterns in those examples. With one example, they can't really see much of a pattern. Sometimes one example is okay if you're giving it an example of something quite long. This is an example of the report I want. But if you let's say headlines, I would always give at least five. Because if you give five great headlines, it's going to start to spot patterns in there as to what sort of things make a great headline.
