cool stuff to do in spandex

A short YouTube tutorial-style video (transcript) by Mary of Ohana OT demonstrating playful therapeutic activities using a spandex sheet with children. Demonstrations include 'washing machine' circles, spinning, moving through layered spandex, jumping/bouncing like a trampoline, somersault exits and a controlled flip exit; repeated emphasis on safety (padding, holding outer layer, tucking chin, grabbing an ankle) and encouraging caregiver implementation.
Hi, it's Mary from Ohana OT in Delondo, and we're going to show you the cool stuff we can do in the spandex. All right. And before we get in, we always say, are you ready? I'm ready. So he even did a flip entry here. So let's see. We're going to start with. How about wash them and machine first? Yeah. So this is the washing machine. Big. You can come in a little closer and kind of show it down a little bit. Big circles. All right. And then this is the spin. You ready for the spin? Yeah. And in the spin, it would only be with a child that's not going to get sick doing. It's a little under responsive. And how's that? Good. Good. Okay, so now we're going to show you going through the layers. You can do a somersault down the layers. You always want to have padding under the spandex. Okay. And to make sure he doesn't fall out, I hold the outer layer up. Are you just going to go with your feet first? Okay. And I really like having kids go up and down, up and down. Yes. They get a lot of. Okay, go ahead and climb up. You get to really build their strength and get a lot of input to their muscles and joints and a lot of movement. And I don't have to work very hard, which I like, too. So you're panting. I'm not. Dilando. We like that. Okay. What else did we say we're gonna do? Oh, you want to show the jumping? Yeah. Okay. And so when you jump, when they're jumping, I always want to make. Hang on a second. Make sure my head isn't over here, because then I can come up and get my head. So I want to be back a ways. Okay, go ahead and stand up. You can hold right here. Now you can jump. And it's just like a trampoline. Yeah, just like a trampoline. Okay, go ahead and sit back down. I'll show something else for safety. Another thing is when you're doing, like, the washing machine or they're just moving around a lot, you want to keep your body away a little so you don't get kicked. And any other safety things. You just want to make sure we have padding and that we're holding the outer layer up as they're moving around so that they don't fall out. Any other thing you want to show them? Did we do it all? We did the bouncing, washing machine, spin, flipping. How about the flip to get out? We could go this way. Come over on this side. So if they want to do a somersault to get out, we want to make sure we have padding and we want to make sure that your chin is tucked and out you go. Nice little somersault. Oh, I know. I'll show one more thing. Hop back in. Another thing is if I feel. Did you see me move my head back there? If I'm at all concerned about if it's a really wiggly kid and they're flying all over the place, I'm always really ready to grab a foot, grab an ankle. Because let's say you're gonna go out that way. Delando. I'm show how to do that. So you're gonna flip out again. So one of the first. Let's go this way to this side. So one of the first things I'll do to control to make sure he doesn't get hurt is grab the ankle and then go ahead and tuck your chin and make sure that the chin is tucked. But that way I've got a hold of him and I've got control. Ta da. All right. All right. Come on over here and we'll say goodbye. Hi. High five. Good job. Thank you. Hi again. I am so glad that you took the time to watch this video and I'm really proud of you because I know you're busy and it takes time to sit down and focus and learn something new and just really proud of you. Give yourself a pat on the back. You're going to see this after each video because I just want to reinforce you and just let you know I'm proud of you. And change isn't easy. Some of these things, you hear the idea and then implementing it. You know, we're all habitual, so it's not always easy to do. So just do your best to make little baby steps forward and make little changes that are positive and keep watching. See you in the next video. Aloha.
