Jillian Michaels introduces Day 22 of a sensory parenting series. Learn brushing and joint compression techniques that use firm, deep pressure to calm children. Press firmly with bent bristles, avoid tickle spots, and use your palm instead of fingertips.
Aloha. We are starting out week four. We are on day 22, sensory heroes. And so that means we are focused on our sensory tools to calm the child. So we've talked about how we can calm ourselves, how we can calm the environment. And now we're going to talk about some tools directly to help calm the child. So this video below goes into detail. How to do brush and squish, how to do this. It's a, it's a tactile technique where you're providing some firm, deep pressure to the muscles and to the joints through joint compressions, through brushing and joint compression. And what I would recommend is go ahead and watch it and try it and then please watch it again one or two more times just so that you can self correct and you can make sure that you're pressing hard enough that you're, you're doing it. All the pieces, all in order. The main tips, the follow up tips that we do with our, our parents, it's usually just making sure they're firm enough, not bending, you know, making sure that bristles are bending, not tickling, not being on the tickle spots which I describe in there. And, and then also just making sure that the child's really comfortable and not using your fingertips at all. Making sure you, you just do this unnatural, get your fingertips out of the way and use, use the palm of your hand so that it's nice and nice and firm and comfortable. So those are the main corrections that we do when, when we follow up with parents and be sure to interact in the community. Ask your questions there and, and let us know how it's going. Aloha.
