Reflex activities

Mary Kostka walks through reflex-focused activities and equipment for sensory integration work, from helicopter spins and prone scooter boards to foot brushing and weighted-ball exercises. Each targets specific reflexes like the TLR, STNR, or Moro, with techniques credited to colleagues like Kokab.
Okay, Kim, this is what we did. We have sticky notes all over. We made your chart really big. And then we have, like, our favorite activities, and we just don't have it all typed up yet. But I'll just tell you what some of these are. We just have core off to the side. So helicopter pronoun, surfboard, two points from one point. Spinner. Do a lot of, like, elbow reaching for animals and stuff like that. Prone scooter board. Just prone activities in general, like on the wedge. Squidges puzzles. Kinetic sand porflection. We call it the crane. It's sitting on the surfboard and then on one point so it can spin around. And the animals are, like, in a circle, and they pick them up with their feet, put them in a basket, laying on their back and kicking a ball up. It's a good one for home. Just rolling, like rolling down on the wedge. Trapeze animal carry. They have to have their hips at 90 and the animals on their lap. Frog swing. Soccer is just playing soccer while you're on the frog swing. Dino egg popcorn is supine flexion. Do a lot with weighted balls for corn flexion or, you know, just core in general. Going up and down the spandex surfboard. Sitting on the surfboard, pulling the pull ropes, pushing the barrel up the wedge. Those are our favorite ones for that. Let's see up here. Just the fear exercises. The two different ones, the tapping one and the ones you gave us for Moro. We have really a lot of overhead kinds of things. So like the tetherball. We make a tetherball out of the hippity hop for them to hit using the body sock with skin. Starfish popcorn. We do a lot of trapeze, the horse swing, doing the bridge. The spot's kind of like the popcorn where you curl up and you go out. And then, of course, the starfish exercise. We learned this from Kokab doing the holding the trapeze above them with the trampoline because the hands want to open up with the head up. So that helps work on that napkin. We learned from Co Cab. Doing, like, hands open close with sounds works on that planter. We've got walking on tiles, texture tiles. And then stimulation of the foot with resistance grasp doing different hand positions. Oh, they just turned off the lights. Kitty whiskers for rooting. That's from CO Cab. And then for hands, pulling trapeze, weighted ball for the tlr. Really a lot. Anything overhead works pretty good. Head up, head down. So what do we have here? Balance beam tape on the Floor Hollow Blues. A fun game. We like Staining Head Pendulum. H. Not sure what that one is. I have to find out who wrote that one. Oh, that's TLR forward and then TLR backwards. Bubbles. So head up kinds of things. Basketball, balloon volleyball. Superman 18R. I really like doing quadruped on the surfboard. And then they have the animals piled up underneath them. And then they toss them to the side on baskets while they're rocking. Plank push ups. Zombie walk. That's why you're walking with your head turned. The wall lean. That's where you have one hand on the wall with your elbow bent a little bit. And then the other arm is straight. Rocking horse. Animal. Oh, animal crawl. That's like they're calling in the animal. They're holding the animal with their chin on their shoulders so their head is turned while they're crawling. Bower crawling. You know, like going underneath something pretending to be a lizard. Reverse limbo. I have to see who wrote that one. I'm not sure what that means. Gate stepping. I'm making a video for Kim. Texture tiles. Trampoline. Spinal Perez called Rocking ball on the back. Resistant shoulder and sacrum prone and so on. You know, just stroking. Also like having them crawl with an animal on their back is good too. Babinski. Just stimulating the. You know, just doing the tactile stimulation to the foot. Foot brushing. Walking on textured things. Doing the stroke, stroking the foot. And then stnr. We like kitty. Cobra. So that's the yoga child pose. To the cobra pose. Doing inchworm on the scooter. So we learned that one from Cokeheads. Two. Two scooters. One under the knees and one under the hands. And you inchworm along with that. My favorite is helicopter with the pull ropes and the helicopters. The four loops. The arms go through loops and the legs go through loops. But they have the stnr. Their legs always want to flex. And so we give them a power boost from behind, push on their heels. That keeps the. Some straight and cat. Cow. There you go. And we don't have this all typed up yet, but we just keep adding what our favorite things are here.
