In this testimonial, Kate Pratt, CEO of the nonprofit SCACED, describes her organization’s experience after switching to Guru (guHRoo) PEO at the end of 2024. She highlights three main benefits: (1) the ability to keep healthcare costs manageable and customize benefit plans to match employee needs; (2) rapid, effective support during a major 2025 insurance disruption, contrasting sharply with her previous PEO that dropped health coverage and provided late quotes, leaving her scrambling. Pratt praises Guru’s customer service as responsive and knowledgeable, noting that no team members felt the “crunch” they experienced before. (3) The PEO’s consolidated back‑office administration, which simplifies nonprofit grant reporting and compliance, allowing her to focus on leadership without worrying about administrative failures. She recommends prospective clients to reach out to current users to assess the service, emphasizing the overall excellence of Guru’s system.

We have had a wonderful experience with Guru. So we not only were we able to keep our healthcare costs manageable and customize the plans we needed for the— what my employees really needed and what they didn't need, we were able to get rid of. So that was— that's been super helpful. But then also we have had some very big challenges in 2025 already. We just switched to Guru at the end of 2024 and we had an excellent response from your company. I had been with a different PEO and they basically dropped us from health insurance, which is the number one reason I'm with the PEO. So that doesn't make a whole lot of sense with them. And unfortunately, they had given us our quotes really late in the year. So I was scrambling to just keep my people covered in health insurance and, you know, reaching out to you, you and I kind of, dug deep and got through what we needed to very quickly. And I feel like you were just able to answer questions. Anyone that's on the fence, I think reaching out to, you know, someone that's a current client or just reaching back out to you and really understanding the services and the needs, I think is a great way to figure out if you should move forward. I would say that customer service— I had mentioned earlier that we were with a PEO before and I really had a hard time getting information, getting the benefits. Like you said, they were kind of the when the renewals were held, they started later than they should. And then it always felt like my team was scrambling to get their benefits in on time when that was the whole point of kind of using a system. And so I think for us, our experience has been that the customer service side has been excellent and nobody on my team has felt, you know, the crunch or, you know, what have you that we've felt with our previous PEO. So for us, the PEO has been great, the whole— the system in general, because it's all consolidated. It gets taken care of by one team. There's so much back office admin that nonprofits nonprofits require with grants and reporting, that for me as a CEO, it takes— it's that one level of like, I know that you all have this so that I can do this, and if something goes haywire, you're at the ready to help me with whatever that might be.
