Matthew Hussey shares three tips for resigning: be honest about pursuing a new opportunity, frame it as your personal decision rather than criticism of the employer, and approach it with humility. Don't use the resignation moment to vent frustrations you'd better save for staying.

Hello, everybody. This is Matthew Hussey with Love Life. I have an incredible show for you today, but I want to make sure you listen right to the end because I'm going to give you a special gift, a foolproof way to become the most intriguing woman in any man's life. And you're not going to want to miss it. I've kind of had the thought that it would be really nice to do a few of these shows on how to master difficult conversations, how to actually deal with conversations that we find hard to have in life, because it's very easy to have the easy conversations where we tell people how much we like them or how much we want to be around them or that we want to do something positive with them. It's a lot harder to have conversations that are confrontational. And one of those conversations is how to quit a job. So I'm going to give you a few quick tips today in order to go and have that conversation in the best possible way. Firstly, I open with honesty. When you go in there, don't feel like you don't have to be honest about every single part of it. You don't have to lay out all of your cards as to what you're doing next. But be honest about the fact that if there's another opportunity and something you have to pursue, then be honest about it. I have to go and pursue this thing. Don't feel the need to make up some crazy excuse about why you can't be there anymore. People see right through those things. Secondly, make it about you, don't make it about them. And I'll explain the import importance of this in a minute. But when you're leaving, you can let them know, look, you know, I have to go and focus on this mission. For me, this is. This is something I have to do. If I stay here, I won't be able to pursue this opportunity. And I know that you understand that I have to do the thing that's best for me. I love working with you guys. You know, I've enjoyed being here. List all the things that you've enjoyed about your relationship with them and what it's given you. But. But right now, I have to do this for me. In other words, make it about you. By the way, you might have things that you're not happy about in that job. You might have things that you're still angry about. Like I, you know, and you did this, and this person did this. And if you'd have fixed this, I wouldn't be leaving right now. But the truth is, that doesn't serve you. Those types of confrontations only serve you when you want to keep the job. Because if you want to be there a month from now and you want things to change, that's the time to bring up things that you want to be different or things that you're angry about. But when you're leaving, that's not the time to do that. It doesn't benefit you at all. All it does is create confrontation. So make it about you. No matter how much your pride wants you to make it about them. Next, have humility when you're there, Be humble. You know, the truth is, I may be wrong in this decision. I have to do this right now because I feel like it's the thing for me to do. I don't know. I can't see into the future. I hope that I don't live to regret this. And the truth is, I. I won't know until I go and try. And I. It would be so great to have your blessing because I really respect you and I've loved working with you. What that does is it leaves the door open. And the reason this is so important is because people often think of relationships in black and white terms like, oh, I'm never going to work with this person again, or I'll never go back to that company. And life has a funny way of being cyclical and bringing us back on things that we thought we'd never do, bringing us into contact with people that we always thought we'd never speak to again, rekindling friendships that we thought were over for good. Life has a funny way of coming back around. And you never want to create a situation where you can't go back. If you actually think it's the best thing for you, leave them. Great. So they can be disappointed that you're leaving. But don't make them feel like they wouldn't help you again in the future. Relationships aren't black and white. They're an evolving, growing thing. And you never know when you're going to need it again. So that's it. That's how to quit a job. We'll try and do some more of these at some point. How to master these difficult conversations.
