Why do your plans fail?

Mayur Bardolia argues that plans fail not because of poor execution but because we choose the wrong focus and let internal resistance stop us. Fast-moving businesses outperform those that linger on ideas, and fear often blocks action even when the plan is sound.

Last week I met someone who asked me why I could not fulfill the plans I made last year. It's common. Forget about the year, people also struggle to fulfill the weekly as well as daily plans. Now the traditional goal-setting system fails here. Now, the traditional, you know, planning system teaches you to prioritize the goal, sticking to the plan, etc. Well, those things do work, but most people ignore the other factors involved to fulfill the goal. You make plans and you start with the energy and focus. That's perfect. But after some hours or days, you lose energy and focus without your awareness. So let's discuss why the traditional time management and planning setting system fails. The, the thing is, the traditional system does not teach you how to choose what to focus on. It teaches you how to focus on what you are told. You may ask, am I doing the right thing for my business? Or what's the best way to prioritize the goals? Well, in reply, I ask questions. How do you know what is the best thing or right thing for you to do? One of the toughest things to decide is where to focus on. We have been programmed and were socialized in organizations where the people above you tells you what the best and right, right thing for you to do. This can be schools, and best means getting good grades in the areas you are told are important. This can be workplace, where right thing to do means what your boss asks you to do. Now, as you progress in your career, you have to take more responsibilities and take the hard decisions And defining your priorities. Now, at the top, there is no boss, and there is a boss who expects you to define your priorities. If you start a business, you have to define the priorities because your profit and survival depend on it. Now, to grow your client base, you will have to decide, should you make your cold calls? Should you try to go to networking events? Or should you just focus more energy on existing clients and then ask for referrals? When you overdeliver? And should you do all 3 things? In what order? How much time should you devote to each? Well, how do you know when one is not working and when it's time to switch? The traditional planning system does not let you distinguish between shiny objects and legitimately better opportunities. We get distracted by many shiny things. You start implementing the ideas, you work harder and get things done for a few days. But after some days, you feel bored and you get attracted by the new opportunities. You lose motivation and you don't stick to your plans. It may be familiar to you too. Well, the solution can be to focus on one thing with discipline and to block all the other options. Well, it— that may seem to work in the short term. It also means ignoring legitimately better opportunities. In a study of businesses who made over 6 to 7 figures profit a year, Researchers found that the most successful business people had one trait in common, which is the speed of implementation. The time it took them to go from the thinking of an idea to actually putting it into practice. Act fast. Momentum has magic. Take quick actions. That is, they chase shiny objects. It has been true for myself and my clients I work with. The people who win are the people who identify better opportunities and work on them the fastest. Well, people who chase every new shiny object and never focus on one thing never make any meaningful progress. Sometimes you need to grab the big opportunities. Now, you may need to change your strategies if one does not work. Well, the next problem is something that anyone who has ever done creative work Which is you know what is important to you to do, but you avoid doing it. Well, have you ever joined a gym and not showed up after the first month? Well, many people join the gym in the first month of the year, but you know most of them cannot continue until the end of the year consistently. People stop practicing diet, yoga, meditation, or exercises, but they give up after some weeks. Have you ever had a vision of the person you wanted to become or the work you want to do? Well, are you an entrepreneur who does not start? Are you a writer who does not write? Well, this is what we can call the resistance. If you want to deal with the resistance, well, I highly recommend you to read the book called The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. Well, in Steven Pressfield's word, let me explain. Most of us have two lives: the life we live and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands resistance. You might call the resistance an emotional world. Most people have the fear of public speaking. Well, you know that. I know a person who served in military in active war zones. When he was asked to give a small speech, He was more afraid than when he was in the active war zone in the enemy-occupied area. That's what we can call resistance. Logically, it's not even failure. Most planning system help, you know, does not help you dealing with the emotional fear. Well, the people I have seen be most successful are not the ones who work hardest or even smartest, but the ones who work most courageously in spite of the resistance. Keep moving. Your resistance is, is most of the time not real. That's it for now. Share this video with someone who you think can find helpful.
