Dr. Meghan Blake and Meghan Carozza pitch Good Kitty, a nutraceutical to prevent UTIs in sexually active women. Ten to twelve million Americans get UTIs yearly, and 70 percent of the E. coli that causes them resists first-line antibiotics. The product aims to replace daily antibiotic use with a non-antibiotic alternative.

Hi, my name is Dr. Meghan Blake, and my partner Meghan Carozza and I have spent the last 2 years developing a, uh, natural but scientifically backed nutraceutical that prevents UTIs in sexually active women. Um, UTIs are a big deal. They affect 10 to 12 million women annually in the US, and 25 to 30% of these infections are chronic and recurrent. Now, most people know that antibiotics are used to treat UTIs, but what you may not know is that if you get chronic recurrent infections, and this would mean you get 2 in 6 months or 12, sorry, 3 in 12 months, and you go to your doctor, you are offered antibiotic prophylaxis as basically the only thing that will take care of your problem. Antibiotic prophylaxis is to either take an antibiotic every time you have sex, or if you are sexually active, you take an antibiotic every day indefinitely. Since I was in medical school, I've heard what a big deal antibiotic resistance was. You know, that was some 25 years ago, but this is a big deal and the time is upon us. Considering E. coli, which is the bacteria that causes the vast majority of UTIs in sexually active women, 70% of E. coli is resistant to at least one first-line drug used to treat it, and 50% are multidrug resistant. So this is, this is pretty scary. As I said, we did not want to be on antibiotic prophylaxis. We have found an alternative that got us off of antibiotic treatment, and we want to share that with people. We have developed a brand and a company around our nutraceutical called Good Kitty. And Good Kitty is about a lot more than just UTI prevention. It's about helping women reclaim their bodies and their sexuality. It's about dispelling shame around women's health and sexuality. And it's about empowering women with knowledge and shared experiences. Thanks.
