Are You Feeling the Wrong Kind of Stress? - Day 1 Reclaim your Calm Challenge - Eustress vs Distress

Michael Mashkevich starts a 5-day calm challenge by breaking down eustress, the good kind of stress that motivates you, versus distress, which harms you. He shares how he recovered language and mobility after a coma, then asks you to identify which type of stress you're actually feeling right now.

Hi, welcome to my 5-day Reclaim Your Calm Challenge. So with each day, I'm going to work up towards the 5 days. I'm going to try to reclaim your calm. But with today, I want to explain what stress is. How do we feel about it? So each stressful event is basically neutral. It is what happens. It's not good or bad, but how we interpret it, what we think about it, how we look at it, Right, it's going to determine how we feel. So the 2 types of stress that you can have, or feel about, I guess, is eustress and distress. So eustress is the positive one. That's kind of like euphoria. That's what I think of it, euphoria. And distress is the negative one where you are feeling bad about it, like you are causing your own kind of pain with it. So the same event, you could do it one way or the other way. So to give you an example, for example, if you have a big presentation at work, you could look at it from the eustress point of view, where this could be something that causes you to get a promotion, that your higher-ups are going to look at you as an expert in what you're talking about. Your coworkers are going to look at you as an expert. Everything that you kind of perceive with this event Could be seen as as positive. Like this is exciting you to do because this could really do wonders for your career. With the same same event, same exact thing, you can look at it from a distress point of view. You can look at it as like you're going to lose your job. You're going to look like a fool in front of your your coworkers. You could just blumble bumble blah blah blah blah right and not be able to to speak. But it's the same event. So Depends on how you feel about it is how you end up internalizing it. And I didn't know about this when I was in my coma. When I came out and I was just kind of laying in bed and not being able to walk, not even being able to talk, the doctors didn't even know if I'd be able to speak the 2 languages I can speak fluently, English and my first language, which is Russian. But luckily I came back. And it's all about interpretation. So Let me know, comment in the comments below, whatever platform you're on. What are you currently feeling? How are you interpreting it? Are you feeling bad about it, that it's causing you pain, the distressful kind of stressor that you're feeling? Or are you stressed? You're feeling good about it, like this is something that's going to propel you to become better in your career. And every day this week, the 5-day challenge, I'm going to give you strategies to deal with stress. How to feel better about the stress or what I've done to get myself to come out of my horrible coma situation and become me again. To travel with my family and be in other places and be happy. So it's all about interpretation. It's all about the mind, how powerful it is. I'll talk about more so how this has helped me and how this could help you. Because no matter if you're at work or you're recovering from something, Or if you're stressed about what kind of thing you're doing with your friends in a game environment or any kind of event, it could be interpreted as eustress, the euphoria kind of stress, or the distress, the one that causes you anxiety and unhappiness. So it's all about you. And every day I'm going to challenge you to do something else. So today I want you to post Let me know what are you dealing with right now. What is causing you to feel stress? Whether it's good stress or bad stress, what is causing you to have that anxiety within you that's making you feel bad? Let me know and I'll talk to you or see you tomorrow. Bye. Bye.
