Hey everyone, it's Michael from Coma to Comeback. So I survived a traumatic car accident. I was in a 10-day coma. And when I woke up, honestly, I felt lost. My short-term memory was basically nonexistent and I had to relearn so much. It was similar to the movie Memento, if you've seen that, where the main character just doesn't remember what happened 10 minutes ago. It's kind of like he's reliving every moment over and over and over again. Looking back, it's kind of funny, but for my friends and family, they might have not been laughing. Well, here's the craziest part. My mindset became the biggest tool for recovery. Today I want to share 3 mindset shifts that completely changed my healing journey. These aren't just theories. It's what really happened. It's what helped me get through the hardest moments. So let's dive in. Okay, mindset shift number 1: progress over perfection. At first I was so frustrated. I couldn't remember things. My body wasn't cooperating. And I kept comparing myself to who I was before the accident. I used to teach tennis. I used to play a lot of tennis. I used to do a lot of things and now I just wasn't able to do them. And then one day I just realized healing isn't about bouncing back overnight. I went through a lot. It's about the tiny wins. So was I able to lift my right arm a little higher today? Win! Did I remember one more thing? Win! Did I walk a little further? Win! And celebrating those little moments kept me going when big progress felt impossible. I couldn't know what I was going to expect, so knowing that I'm making progress made me feel better. And I urge you to feel better every day. Okay, mindset shift number 2. My brain is relearning, not broken. Okay, the memory thing. It's scary. I forget conversations mid-sentence. Imagine talking and then you're like, whoa, what did I just say? But instead of saying my brain is ruined, it's broken, I start saying it's relearning. I'm slowly getting back to being me. I used sticky notes, voice memos. I used the to-do app. I think I made a video about how I use that. I even made little memorable doodles to kind of remember things. I kind of stick it on my wall or put it on my computer. Somehow it started making sense to me and slowly things got better. It wasn't overnight, but it got better. Our brains are incredible at adapting. At At working to make things better. We just have to trust the process. It has to work and it will work. Mindset shift number 3: Healing isn't linear and that's okay. Some days I'd feel great and the next, total setback. At first I thought, I'm failing. But guess what? Healing isn't a straight line. If you feel bad because maybe you got up on the wrong side of the bed or somebody said something bad to you, it's part of the process. It's your job to just brush it off, get up and keep going. Remember that bad days don't erase good days. They're just part of the journey. Once I accepted that, recovery became less about fixing myself And more about trusting myself because I knew I could get there. I just have to have the belief. Just have that mindset that I can do it and I will do it. Okay, time for the closing. If you're healing from anything, an accident, a trauma, or life's random curveballs, I hope these shifts help you as they helped me. So just to review, the mindset shifts are: 1, progress over perfection. 2, my brain is relearning. It's not broken. 3, healing isn't linear and that's okay. So drop a comment below which mindset shifts resonated with you. And if you're on your own comeback journey, hit subscribe and we'll keep going together. I'm still not done recovering. I don't think we'll ever be done recovering in the sense of like we're still growing as humans and let's keep growing. And I think this will help us keep growing by the stuff that you can do in your comeback journey. And remember to be kind to yourself. You're doing better than you think.
