A first-drive review and acceleration run of the 2019/2018 Ford Mustang GT (American Stallion channel). The speaker (Michael Chuang) describes this black-on-black Mustang GT fitted with a six-speed manual (PP1 variant), highlights its 460 hp rating and 7,500 rpm redline, comments on a new digital dashboard and added rev-match, reports a measured acceleration run of 7.3 seconds (speaker compares it to a tuned Focus RS and speculates the 10-speed auto might be quicker), praises the exhaust and interior while criticizing steering, seat bolstering, and the ~US$50k price, and expresses a favorable view relative to his Z06 and interest in a GT500.

Black on black. I dig it. Sa. 2019 Mustang GT. The American Stallion. This one's fitted with the proper six speed manual gearbox. I remember the days when Mustangs were only good in straight lines. Boy, how times have changed. You know, I would have preferred the performance pack too, but even this PP1 version does a good job at keeping the car planted around these corners. These new Mustang GTs now make more power than a base Corvette. They're rated at 460 horsepower and rev out to 7500 rpm. But I wonder which one is faster. Another big upgrade for this model year is the digital dashboard. I was really looking forward to it, but it's nowhere near as pretty or informative as the one in my Z06. Don't get me wrong though, Ford really upped their game here. But with everybody else coming out with digital dashes, they need to step it up some more. The good news is that this gearbox is solid. The throws are short, precise, and they're even adding a rev match for 2019. It's sad to think that the manual transmission might be going away. Such a shame. But I guess it's about that time. Time to find out how fast this thing is. It's a really good sounding car, but stupid me forgot to record the audio on this run. 7.3 seconds. That's faster than I thought it would be. It's actually faster than John's tuned Focus rs. And it's not even correct at the sea level. The new higher redline definitely helps to keep the car in power for longer, but I'm willing to bet that the 10 speed auto might be even faster. I'm gonna be honest with you, I never liked Mustangs. I drove an EcoBoost last year and it was kind of like watching paint dry. But this one, this one's something else. It's got presence. The slash cut exhaust sounds better than my Z06 and the interior is just a cool place to hang out. It's got all the toys you'd want, plus it's got back seats. Would I trade my Z06 for the new GT500? Hell yeah. It'd be nice to have something more practical for a change. This is what modern American muscles should be. Fast, sophisticated and angry. It's not without fault though. Sometimes it feels clunky to drive. The steering wheel is huge and the seats could use more bolstering. And then there's the price. I just can't justify spending almost 50 grand on a Mustang. Even if it can take on Corvettes.
