A tuned 2019 BMW M5 Competition with 750 hp runs 0-60 in 4.89 seconds and a quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds at 132 mph. The speaker expected faster times from the 750 hp tune and compares results to stock M5 Competition benchmarks, questioning what held it back.

Chapters
Fatherhood. It's a pretty life changing event. It was bound to happen someday. I just didn't realize how soon that someday would be. But being a dad is more than changing diapers, reading bedtime stories or dying from the lack of sleep. Being a dad also requires you to have a cool dad car. And to me, the textbook definition of a cool dad car has always been the BMW M5. There's just something about them. See, everyone and their Mom's got an M3. The M2 and M4 only have two doors and the M6 is cool, but you see them a little too often in rap videos. So that's where the M5 comes in. Four doors. Classy, fast. It overall just plain awesome stock. Its 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 makes 617 horsepower and 553 pounds of torque. Weighing in at around 4400 pounds. It's no lightweight either. But that's because it's also got all wheel drive now, so you can put all that power to the ground. Don't worry though, you can still be a hooligan with the press of a button. But this isn't just any M5. It's an M5 competition with a tune and downplayer. It's a conservative tune, but it should still make north of 750 brake horsepower. Anyway, let's see what this thing can do. So the results were honestly a little bit disappointing to me. At least I. I don't know if it was the car or the tune, but we just couldn't break under 10.8 at 132 miles per hour. Now that may seem quick in the grand scheme of things, and it is, but Car and driver ran a stock M5 competition at 11 flat at 130mph. So I expect a little bit more with an extra 150 horsepower under the hood. But it's also a possibility that BMW sent car and driver a factory freak because Road and track also ran a stock M5. Cop knitted an 114 at 123 miles per hour. There are a lot of variables here, so I can't really make a conclusive statement. Let's just take a look at those 40. 160, 130 times. For the record, I wasn't the one driving, but the car was running full auto every time. Anyways, let's start with the 4100 in this tuned BMW M5 competition did that in 4.89 seconds. That's just a hair slower than the stage 2 TT RS we tested which ran 4.81 and right around the stock C7Z06. I would have guessed that the all wheel drive would help put down a quicker 4100 time though, but that's all pretty relevant for cars of this power level because 60130 is where the magic actually happens and in this BMW M5 competition with a tune in downpipe did that in 7.65 seconds. That's a hundredth of a second faster than my stock automatic Z06. Might be a pretty good race here. In case you're curious. Car and driver's quote unquote stock M5 competition did 6130 in 8 seconds flat, but a few independent tests actually show 8.3 seconds. So I'm really starting to think that the car and driver M5 is something special that BMW whipped up for them. Back to the whole Z06 conversation. Now this is where things get a little interesting because I actually think that this tuned M5 comp should and would pull on my car regardless of how close they are in the six 130 times because it traps a few miles per hour faster than the stock Z06 in the quarter mile. The difference is definitely in the high end. That's usually how BMWs work and I expect the same thing to happen here, so maybe I can get that race going sometime. Anyway, let me know what your definition of a cool dad car is. Hope you enjoyed this video and I'll catch you on the next one. Thanks for watching.
