YouTube car-comparison video (Michael Chuang) comparing a 2020 Mercedes AMG GT R and a 2019 Corvette C7 Z06 in straight-line performance tests. The host narrates drag and 40-roll runs, notes a fuel issue and a replacement (manual) Z06, and reports measured runs and trap speeds — highlighting the Corvette’s larger 6.2L supercharged V8 (~650 bhp) and the AMG’s 4.0L twin-turbo V8 (~577 bhp). Recorded performance notes: Corvette expected high‑tens at ~127 mph; AMG GTR quoted 11.2s at 131 mph; both weigh about 3,600 (source uses “£3,600”); measured rolling times near 7.85–7.86 and half‑mile trap estimates ~152–155 mph.

America and Germany. We had some disagreements back in the day and you know, we worked them out. Or so we thought. You see, there's always one recipe that we keep going back to. Rear wheel drive, big V8 and a hell of a lot of boost. Today on my left I have the 2020 Mercedes AMG GTR. And on my right, my 2019 Corvette C7Z06. Both great cars, no doubt about it, but they do target different demographics. Ultimately, I think they serve the same purpose. Though you could argue that the AMG GTR costs three times as much, or that the Corvette is simply outclassed by German luxury because, well, it's a pile of American crap. According to our friend John Dong. Whatever you say to help yourself sleep at night, the fact remains that both of these cars are front engine, rear wheel drive, two seat sports cars with V8s. Really loud V8s. The Corvette hits pretty heavy with a 6.2 liter supercharged Chevrolet small block which makes around 650 brake horsepower. It should be able to do high tens at about 127 miles per hour on a perfectly prepped drag strip. The Mercedes, on the other hand, has a 4 liter V8 with two turbos. It makes a modest 577 brake horsepower. It crosses the line a little slower at 11.2, but somehow it traps higher at 131mph. Interesting, right? Both cars weigh around the same too, about £3,600. So I wonder if we did a little straight line racing, who would take the cake? Let's find out. So before we begin, I'd like to note that there was some bad fuel in my Z06 and we ended up rescheduling the race. And as some of you know, I sold that car, so I had to find a replacement. Say hello to the doppelganger. It's almost exactly the same, except this one is a manual. Let's get started with the classic dig. Let's try this race again from a 40 roll. Hopefully the Z06 will do a little better this time around because this is all about raw performance. Sa. So it looked like the Corvette didn't do so well from a dig. Not sure if anyone used launch control, but both cars seemed decent off the line. Now the roll is a different story, and the Z06 definitely held its own up here. Although it did look like it was losing steam up top. And the AMG GT R is definitely starting to reel them in. To break it down some more, let's take a look at some data from our fast list. Both cars put down very similar rolling times. The AMG GTR did a 6130 of 7.86 and I ran a 7.85 in my manual C7Z, but that was definitely a hero run. The average Z06 will run closer to 8 flat to 8.1 but frankly that's close enough to be a driver's race. What surprised me the most was the last stretch of the run. Yeah, the Z06 had the stage two wing on it, but even then the AMG GTR was reeling him in pretty hard to analyze. Top end we'll defer to the half mile results. In my experience, stock manual cars with a stage two wing will trap around 152 to 153 three and a half, but it varies because of driver. I've also seen some stock cars have trouble braking 150 in general. The AMG GT R on the other hand will consistently put down a 154 to 155 mile per hour time. The key word here is consistently because of its seven speed dual clutch gearbox and sophisticated traction system. Anyway, there's the math and there are the results, but what do you guys think? Should the Z06 have won the race? Would it have been better if it was the 8 speed automatic? Let me know in the comments below. I hope you guys enjoyed this video.
