2020 Porsche 911 (992) Carrera S vs. BMW M3 vs. Tuned M240i | Let's Drag Race Some Fast RWD Cars

Michael Chuang drag races a Porsche 911 Carrera S against a BMW M3 and a tuned M240i. The video breaks down each car's performance, modifications, and how they stack up in head-to-head matchups on the strip.

All right, so we're back and this is gonna be part two of our 3x3 showdown. A couple days ago we did part one with a bunch of all wheel drive performance cars. Relatively similar power to weight ratios. If you haven't seen it yet, I suggest you go and watch it right now and I'll meet you back here when you're done. But if you've seen it already, you now know it's time for the rear wheel drive cars to give it a shot. Now the winner from this round is going to go on to race the all wheel drive winner from part one. We're going to try to keep a similar setup going where we had a bone stock car versus a stock ish car versus a more heavily modified car. Hopefully all these guys have relatively comparable power levels. And just a quick refresher, we'll be running them in a three way drag race down our half mile Runway for two rolls and a dig. Best out of three wins anyway. Without further ado, let's get to know our contestants a little better. This is the BMW M3. Obviously not the fancy new G80, but the good old F80. Right now it's sitting in stock form with the exception of a burble tune and exhaust. So in theory it should still be pretty close to the 425 horsepower that came from the factory. We haven't tested a stock M3 before, but based on a curb weight of 3,600 pounds, the power ratio is 8.41. So I'm estimating that it should be capable of a 12/2 6130 time seems conservative, but that's only because this car is a six speed manual. And for the purposes of drag racing, that might be a disadvantage. However, anything can happen, right? Either way, I'm curious to see where it ends up in the finish line today. Next up is another contender from BMW. This time it's a more pedestrian 2017 M240i in a storo blue. But don't let those stock 18's fool you. They're wrapped in R888s and that means this car has some serious power. It's an extremely underrated platform as it sports the potent B58 engine, yet has a relatively light curb weight of 3400 and change. It's essentially a full bolt on car with the works and an E30 tune. And we're told it makes around 490 wheel or around 550 to the crank. So the power weight is an astonishing 6.21. I have no idea what to expect from this thing. But it's also a six speed manual, so a lot of this is going to come down to driver. Last but certainly not least is the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S. We already know how stupid fast this thing is because we've run it in our half mile acceleration tests. On paper, it's only got 443 horsepower and the power to weight is 7.66. But somehow it's able to do a mid 9 second 6130 time and play ball with some entry level supercars. It probably has a lot to do with the way the car delivers the power, the fact that it makes more than the factory claims, and that PDK is simply just a work of art. But like the X3M in the previous round, I felt the need to handicap the 992. So we put an extra body in the car to weigh it down. Let's get this party started. It. It's. Pretty damn close with those first two runs. Not gonna lie. When Santiago, the guy with the M240, I hit me up about his car, I was a little skeptical what it could do. Full bolt on B58. I know they're quick, but can't be that fast, right? Then again, I do have a tendency to underestimate the potential of tuned BMWs. I mean, remember that one time when I got walked by that full bolt on Stock Turbo F80M3 in my Z06? But damn, for a car like that to be able to run with a 992 Carrera S, that's got to be one hell of a setup. It's also super sleeper with those stock 18s on it. The 992 did have a female pasture in the car, so that's an additional £100 or so. If you take the pasture out of the equation, I think the Porsche would have taken all three runs. Maybe it's too close to tell and it's really down to who gets the hit or shifting skills. I think Santiago nailed it. But if the M240i was auto, it would have won because if you look closely, he's only really losing ground on the shifts. Out of curiosity, I want to take a look at those V box numbers on the runs to see what really went down. So in the first run, the M240i and the Porsche ran exactly the same 613 time at 10.22. The F80 did a best of 12.91. Keep in mind that these times are not DA corrected, so they would have likely been a few times faster in optimal conditions. Conditions as much as I love manuals, it seems like the M3 is about a full second slower than it should be without the DCT moving on to Run 2, the M240i ran a significantly quicker 9.77, which makes sense as it sort of edged out the Porsche here from a dig. There's no chance even with Archer Blades in the back, the BMW cannot match the Porsche's launch control. It's just way too sophisticated. The 911 pulled a 145 trap in the half, whereas the M240i came in at 142 and the M3 lagged behind at 130. So based on this data, it looks like the 992 is consistently slower from a roll in the 6130 than if you went from a dig. Must be some kind of Porsche overboost magic going on here. Anyway, the 911 is going to be moving on to the final round to race the tuned X3M and this time around we're not going to handicap either car. They're going to go balls out. So stay tuned for that.
