Sam. Of the big three luxury German car makers, we tend to hear a lot about Mercedes and BMW around here because, well, they have so many more M and AMG variants. But I feel like Audi deserves a little bit of limelight too. After all, the RS6 Avant is on my list of all time favorites. So today we're going to race two of the fastest four door examples available from both Audi's RS and Mercedes notorious AMG division down our half mile Runway. Let's take a look at what we got. First up is the car that redefined the station wagon. This is the new Audi RS6 savant. Powered by a 4 liter twin turbo V8, it makes 591 horsepower, but it also weighs almost 2 and a half tons and that could be a problem. The interior is completely redesigned, three digital screens, eight speed auto plush looking seats. It feels futuristic and could be a nice place to spend some time. Couple that with Audi's legendary Quattro all wheel drive and you have the recipe for a perfect fast daily driver. By itself it sounds decent and. But knowing what the AMG sounds like, it's got some catching up to do. Over here is a comparable mid sized offering from Mercedes Benz. This is the E63S AMG. It's also a 4 liter twin turbo V8 with all wheel drive, but it's got a little more power and a lot less weight. It also comes in wagon form that's still about 300 pounds lighter than the Audi. The interior is nice and I love the race seats, but being a design that held from 2017, it's starting to feel dated. They did refresh the car for 2021, but it's still not winning any beauty contests. But let's face it, you buy an AMG for this, So as per usual, we'll be running them down our Runway for two rolls and a dig. Let's get this. It, It's. It's. So I'm definitely a little bit disappointed in the R6. It's been a while since I drove the C7 gen performance version, but it definitely wouldn't have lost like that to an E63S. And given that this is a new model with a revamped powertrain, it also shouldn't have been walked by a competitor that's been on the market for over three years already. And despite the numbers being comparable in a magazine, a lot of the blame has to go to the curb weight. The Audi is now almost 500 pounds heavier than both its predecessor and the Mercedes. And at this weight class it should really be considered a midsize suv, but that's a conversation for another day. Anyway, I wanted to take a look at the numbers that we got. We'll start with our in House 40 100, where the E63s did an impressive 5.44 seconds and the RSX put down a modest 5.75. At this point, the race should already be pretty clear, but let's drag it out to 60100 30. The Merc ran a pretty decent 9.13, not as fast as its hero run, but at least it didn't overheat this time around. Now the Audi, on the other hand, did a very lukewarm 9.84, and this is especially disappointing because it confirms that this car is dramatically slower than its outgoing model. And something about that just rubs me the wrong way. I love wagons, I love the R6, always have, but this one definitely lost its way. Maybe they'll fix it with a future update with a performance trim where it has URS levels of power, because I'm sure they left a lot on the table in terms of the tune, but right now as it sits, I don't know. Call me crazy, but I just rather have an RSQ8. The hype wasn't worth it, at least not yet. But what do you all think about the RS6? Is it a cool station wagon? Let me know in the comments below. And yeah, that's gonna do it for me on this episode. As always, I'll catch you on the next one. I hope you guys enjoyed this video as much as I did making it.
