Ferrari vs. Lamborghini vs. Audi R8 V10 | Mid Engine Supercar Showdown [PART 1]

Michael Chuang pits a Ferrari 488 Spider, Lamborghini Huracan, and tuned Audi R8 V10 in a drag race at an airstrip. The stage 2 Audi, pushing 670 bhp, beat both supercars despite being heavier. The Ferrari's 0-130 time hit 8.8 seconds, far slower than its expected low-7s.
Questions this video answers
661 brake horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque from a 3.9 L twin-turbo V8.
602 horsepower.
Approximately 670 brake horsepower (stage two tune).
Both recorded DA-corrected 0-130 times of about 8.8 seconds (Ferrari best 8.8 s; Huracan best 8.8.16), versus expected low-7 seconds for the Ferrari.

So we're back here today at our lovely little airstrip for some good old fashioned fun. As you can see behind me, I've got some pretty interesting toys and obviously the first thing that comes to mind when you have a lineup like this.
Is to race them head to head.
And we're going to get to that. But first we should explain that we're.
Going to do this exhibition style.
Which means that we're going to do a three way drag race between these.
Three mid engine supercars.
The tried and true Audi R8 V10.
The outlandish Lamborghini Huracan, and this extremely gorgeous Ferrari 488 Spider.
They'll go from a 30 or 40 roll and possibly a dig on this 3,500 foot long Runway. And and we're going to do the same thing next week with some front engine counterparts. The winner from both camps is going to advance to a final round which we race the fastest mid engine to.
The fastest front engine.
Let's give these cars some track day love.
This is the Ferrari 488 Spider.661 brake horsepower, 561 pound feet of torque, all from a 3.9 liter twin turbo V8. It's essentially the first time we've seen Ferrari use a boosted engine since the F40. Power is sent through a fast shifting 7 speed dual clutch gearbox. But the wonderful thing is that it's light, less than 3,400 pounds, which puts the power to weight ratio in the low 5s. And in theory we should be seeing a low 7 second 6130 time. And even though it's not naturally aspirated anymore, it still sounds pretty darn good. Next up we have its polar opposite, the Lamborghini Huracan. 602 horsepower and significantly less torque. But instead you get a glorious high revving, naturally aspirated V10, more displacement and all wheel drive. It's also a seven speed dual clutch.
And it weighs about the same as.
The 488, so power to weight ratio is in the mid 5s. With that said, we've tested this car a few times and the data shows it to be a high 7/2 61:30 car. Even though the technology here isn't cutting edge. The one thing that never gets old is the way it sounds. Now here's the wild card, the Audi R8 V10. Normally we dismiss it for being the slowest of the bunch because it's basically a fatter detuned version of the Huracan. But this one's different because this one has an exhaust and stage two tune that supposedly makes around 670 brake horsepower, which puts it high up there in the game. However, it does weigh a good £200 more than the Lambo and Ferrari. We never tested a stage two R8 V10, but the stage one car we ran got very similar numbers to a stock Huracan. So this should be interesting to see if all else fails. Just listen to that fab Speed exhaust. It's easily over half a million in cars right here. So it's a rare sight to see three of these things together, let alone put them against each other on an airstrip. So we'll try to make the most out of it. Numbers don't tell the whole story.
In a real race you have to.
Account for reaction time, driver mod, gearing and a whole bunch of other variables that can change the end results. Lets get the party going. We'll do the best out of three with some 40 rolls and then a dig at the.
It's it, It's.
Okay. So that was definitely not the result I was expecting when I first saw this lineup. Before I shot the video, I was.
Almost positive the Ferrari was going to.
Take it because come on in every single magazine test or video out there, it's easily running mid-10s at well over 130 miles per hour. And even as a drop top, it's pound for pound the faster car. But that was clearly not the case today. Earlier in the video I talked about acceleration times from our fastless data and where the Ferrari should stack up based on theoretical Internet numbers. Luckily we did have a V box in the car during the runs, but the times that we got just did not make sense. In fact, they were incredibly far off.
Let's take a look.
So out of all the runs we did, the Ferrari 488 Spider put down a best da corrected 6130 time of 8.8 seconds, which is way off from the low to mid 7 second time that we should be seeing. We also had a data logger in the Lambo and we pulled a best DA corrected 6130 of 8.8.16. Not too far off from my initial.
Test of the car where it ran high sevens.
Unfortunately we didn't have anything in the R8, but based on how it was performing, I'd say that it's more than likely to be a solid mid 7/2 600130 car. Obviously something wasn't quite right here. We did six runs to about 140 miles per hour, but in none of them did the Ferrari take the cake. And you know, I get it. In a racing situation you're going to have somebody who gets to jump. Somebody might be in the wrong gear, but you expect a faster car to be winning at least one race, right? Well, it didn't and I'm kind of disappointed because I was really hoping the 4E8 would win. Anyway, the stage 2 Audi R8 V10 is going to advance to the final round, but before we can do that, we have to pick a winner from next week's episode, which is going to be the front engine supercar showdown. So stay tuned for that. In the meantime, let me know why you guys think the Ferrari lost or what happened in those races. Hit me up with some theories in the comments below.
