How Fast is a Tuned 800HP McLaren 600LT? | Acceleration in the 570S on Steroids

Michael Chuang tests a tuned McLaren 600LT with 800 hp from a DME Stage 2 tune and downpipes. It hits 60-130 mph in 5.75 seconds and feels like a track-focused 570S on steroids, with minimal throttle lag and a visceral driving experience.

Say you're in the market for McLaren. The 562 horsepower is not enough and £3,200 is a bit too heavy. And you want something a little more track orientated. Well then, this is the car for you. The McLaren 600 LT. Basically a 570s on steroids for those who live at the track. Using the Same Twin Turbo 3.8 liter V8, it makes 592 brake horsepower and 457 pounds of torque. Not impressive in this day and age. But it only has to move 2,989 pounds of carbon fiber and alcantara. But let's not forget that hood scoop and those Sena seats. You can't buy a 600 LT without one. In its stock form, it's a low 10 second car with a sub 3 second 0 to 60 time, but you guessed it, this car is anything but stock. It's got a DME stage two tune with downpipes. No one knows the exact figures, but if I had to guess, I'd say something like 800 brake horsepower. We've seen it race the VF supercharged Huracan, but today I want to see how it does on our acceleration test. So let's get on with it. The car is a pretty visceral experience, no doubt about it. But even though it has about 800 horsepower and a power to weight ratio of less than 4 to 1, it doesn't feel like it wants to kill you. Everything about it is precise, like a scalpel when you turn the steering wheel. It's not like the Huracan, where it's this abrupt relocation of metal and carbon fiber, but more of a smooth transition that happens before you even know it. Getting in and out of the car is an exercise in itself, but once you're in them, the Sena seats make you feel like you're wearing the car like a batsuit. And though the throttle response is pretty immediate, there's a noticeable amount of lag under 4000rpm, so be mindful of that if you're racing from a roll. I only ended up doing the test in full auto, but I have a feeling that that would give you the faster time. Regardless, let's punch it from just under 40 miles per hour so we can gather both the 40, 160 to 130 in. That was properly quick and the brakes felt like they would stop you equally as fast. Typically, I don't like the way turbocharged cars sound compared to NA or supercharged ones, but this thing does sound pretty Damn good considering it's only a twin turbo 3.8 liter V8. But the best part is those downshifts. McLarens are fast. There's no two ways around it. The 720s currently holds the top spot on both our fast lists. So where does this Tune 600LT stack up? Well, this 800 horsepower McLaren did our 40100 in 3.76 seconds, which is only a tenth of a second slower than the 720s. But it pretty much obliterates every other car on this list. But then things get interesting because it looks like the 600 LT would reel a 728 on the top end. It was able to do 60 to 130 in 5.75 seconds, which is 2/10 of a second faster. I know it's not stock, but still, that's hard to really put into words. That's probably the fastest car I've driven so far. It's almost like the speedo couldn't keep up. Hitting 160 basically happened in a blink of an eye. It was over before I even knew what happened. At the end of the day, the 600lt is a fantastic car. But for the price, I don't know if I could do it. It costs about the same as a 720s and honestly, I'd spend my money on that instead. I'd have a hard time justifying 300 grand for a 570s on steroids, no matter how cool that roof scoop is. Special thanks to Akash and the guys at Slipstream Racing for hooking me up with the 600 LC in a place to let her loose. Oh my God, those downshifts. What the hell? Oh my God, I'm dying.
