You're probably thinking to yourself, Mustangs, they're a dime a dozen, so why another video on one? But I talked a bunch of trash about the EcoBoost Mustang in my Abarth 124 review and my Mustang GT review. So I think this car deserves a chance to redeem itself. Shall we find out how fast it is then? This is the 2018 EcoBoost Mustang Premium. And what premium buys you is this cool digital dash, dashboard, heated and vented seats and a big nav screen. But it also makes it cost 37 grand, which is a little too steep for a four cylinder Mustang if you ask me. But I'm not here to debate the price point. I'm here to find out how fast this car is. This car's got a 2.3 liter turbocharged inline four. It makes 310 brake horsepower and 350 pound feet of torque. It's the same engine from the Ford Focus rs, but they tuned it down a bit. It's also got the new 10 speed automatic, but at £3,700 it's also quite a bit heavier. So I'm not going to expect it to be as quick as the 9.88 second time that the Ford Focus RS put down. But can it beat my Barth124? Let's find out. We'll put into track mode and do full manual first, second gear. And here we. All right, now let's try full auto. Whoops. I accidentally activated the paddles. That limiter bounce doesn't sound half. Wow. Sixth gear at 100 miles per hour. Those are some tight ratios. Good thing this computer ships pretty fast. Not gonna lie. Pretty disappointed this car's not as fast as I thought it would be. But the key takeaway point is that full is faster than manual. The thing about these turbo engines is that they don't like to be revved out all the way to redline. In manual mode, I shifted at 6,500 rpm every time. But in full auto the computer likes to shift at 6,000 to keep the car in boost for longer. Let's go analyze these times in the fast list now. So the 2018 EcoBoost Mustang did 40 to 112 seconds flat. That's not bad. But I didn't think anything could be slower than my Abarth 124 in a straight line. Keep in mind that we did test the convertible though, so the coupe could be a tenth or two of a second faster. I'd be curious to see what a full bolt on car. Could do, But I think I'm done with Mustangs for a while. At least until I can get my hands on the new GT500. Wow. Is that a Hellcat? Is it another Hellcat? Is it? Yes. God, there's so many Hellcats in this town. Why?
