Tuned 550HP 2021 Toyota Supra vs BMW M3 (G80), C8 Corvette, Shelby GT500, C6 Z06, and TTRS Roll Race

YouTube video (Michael Chuang, uploaded Sept 17, 2021) covering a roll-racing event at Pocono Raceway where a modified 2021 Toyota Supra (early 2021 ECU, ethanol-capable tune) is tested against several high-performance cars. The video describes the Supra's modifications (E50 tune, full exhaust, catless downpipes, intake, ~100 lb weight reduction), estimated power and weight (~500 wheel hp in a ~3300 lb car), and reports measured acceleration runs: a 40100 run of 5.23 seconds and a 60–130 time of 8.73 seconds. It also narrates matchups versus a Mk4 Supra (~600 whp claimed), Shelby GT500 (~assumed 900 hp), BMW M3 (G80) with JB4 MAP2 (~estimated ≥600 hp), C6 Z06, stage 2 TTRS (~assumed ~600 hp), and a C8 Z51 (~estimated 510 hp). The host comments on platform potential and future upgrades (big turbo rumored).

So the fifth gen Supra, we've seen it a few times on the channel already, but this one's a bit different. You might be able to tell by those slicks out back, but it's definitely got some power. A lot more power.
It's September now and it's funny how quickly time flies, but this part of the year also brings one of my favorite seasons into town. And yep, that's boost season, which means that there's no better time than to hit up one of the most awesome legal roll racing events in the northeast.
Race motive.
If you're not familiar, it's basically the place where you can full send your car down the back straightaway of Pocone Raceway for over a third of a mile in a completely safe and fun manner. So you don't have to worry about, you know, getting your license confiscated. And best of all, you can race against your friends all you want. And if you're competitive, they have different classes so you can win some prizes and maybe some bragging rights. Anyway, today we brought along a 2021 FBO Toyota Supra with a little bit of ethanol to see if it can keep up with the heavy hitters. Let's take a look.
The 2021 Toyota Supra got updated with almost 50 more peak horsepower, slightly revised internals, lower compression, more boost and some suspension tweaks. But regardless of what the numbers say, it's not dramatically quicker than the previous 2020 model year. However, as of this video, the ECU is also much harder to crack and you have to send it off to Germany for it to be flashed. You can still jb4 the car, but it's not as effective as a dedicated tune. Luckily, this one's an exception since it's an early 2021 model. The ECU hasn't been locked yet and now it's got all the goodies. We're talking a custom E50 tune, full exhaust, catless downpipes, intake, and about 100 pounds of weight reduction. All in all, we're looking at around 500 wheel horsepower in a 3300 pound package. Coupled with the 8 speed ZF gearbox, I think we're gonna have a pretty contestant here. Speaking of custom, let's just take a moment to appreciate that steering wheel. It's absolutely stunning. And the paddles are on point too. Definitely a necessary upgrade for any long term ownership with all those added carbon bits. This was originally supposed to be a show car, but I think the owner decided that it was meant for much more than Looking pretty. Anyway, let's see what it sounds like. But before we race anyone, I want to get an idea of how fast this thing is. We'll baseline start with a 60 to 130 in our 40100 acceleration run. First contender is going to be a late model predecessor. This is a 1994 Mark 4 supra with a single turbo bolt ons and a bit of ethanol. The owner claims over 600 wheel horsepower, so I think this will be a pretty good exhibition match for us. Unfortunately, on Both runs the MK4 had troubles going into fifth gear, but my guess is that it had much more turbo lag than the newer Supra, which is why we kind of got it off the jump. Oddly. I'm not sure why we even lined up with this thing, but it's a bolt on Shelby GT500. The owner was very timid about sharing his setup, so we're just going to assume about 900 horsepower. It's heavy, but it's also DCT, so there's a lot of potential here. I know we're going to lose, but I just want to see if we can keep up. Well, I guess not. When I first approached this M3, he told me that it only had downpipes and knowing what I know from my VBOX data and my time with an M4 comp, it should be a pretty good race. But then I quickly found out that this G80 was running JB4 MAP2, so I'm going to peg it at at least 600 horsepower. So we actually weren't planning to race the Z06, but it just happened, which is why it started about two cars ahead of us. Not sure what mods or if any, but based on how we kept up with it, seems pretty stock. Here's another bright yellow car, a stage 2 TTRS, which the owner was also very reluctant to share any info about. One of the first cars I ever reviewed on this channel was a stage 2 Audi TTRS. So I knew it was ungodly fast, but we never fully explored its potential. Based on theoretical data though, it's just as fast, if not faster than my stock auto C7Z. Let's just say 600 horsepower here. Based on what happened, that Audi is definitely a mid 7 second 6 to 130 car. So this is the one I've been waiting for. Corvette versus supra. This blue C8Z51 has an AFE exhaust, but I'm guessing that's only really good for 10 or 20 horsepower at best. So let's just say a solid 510, which is 15 more than stock. It. Before we conclude this video, let's take a look at the numbers we got from the acceleration runs. We'll start with our in House 4 100, where the Supra pulled off an impressive 5.23 which is just a hair faster than a 707 horsepower Hellcat Challenger. That's mainly because the Hellcat had traction issues though, but on top of that, it's almost three seconds faster than a stock 2020 supra. The real tell is 60130 and this car nailed it in 8.73 seconds, which is at least half a second faster than a stock M4 comp and a ridiculous 5 second time faster than a stock 2020 supra. Like I always say, 8 seconds is entry level supercar territory. At least it was five years ago. So it's pretty cool that for around two or three grand in modifications you can let this car play in that segment.
So an FBO super isn't as fast as I hoped it would be. Of course we were playing the big leagues today and we also got to remember that the GR Supra started out as a $55,000 entry level sports car with under 400 horsepower. Despite its legendary nameplate, it's still just a mid range Japanese performance offering that competes with stuff like, you know, Mustang GTs, 400Zs, M340 is maybe some baby AMGs, but it's always nice to see where you stand with your car and the mods that you threw into it. Rumor has it though is that this Supra is now getting a big turbo installed and we might see it again at another race mode event in the near future. Which is cool because I'd be really curious to see what the reasonable limits of a platform like this is. But yeah, if you're in the Tri State era and you have a fast car and you want to line up.
In a versus world situation like what.
