Mick Hunt recalls joining a team with older, talented players like Gaines, Adams, Anthony Waters, and Tremaine Billy. Playing behind Gaines in his first year was formative, with Gaines providing crucial mentorship that shaped his development as an athlete.

Seeing Gaines, Adams, God bless his soul, and Anthony Waters and Tremaine Billy and all those guys, man, I was like. I did not expect these guys to be, you know, like you said, grown man. And I heard of Gaines and heard how good he was, but to come in and see that, man, it was. It was wild. But they put me under their wings, man, especially Gaines. And it was an amazing first year to play behind him and watch him play and to see how he did things, man, it was. It was truly amazing.
