This YouTube episode discusses tooling for managing large, messy cloud billing data and how to provide business relevance via tagging. The speaker explains that bills contain thousands of line items with inconsistent descriptions and costs, and emphasizes using tagging (Azure tagging or platform-provided smart tagging) to make sense of the data across sources like Azure and Microsoft 365.

And so the first component, really, if we want to just quickly give an idea of how the tooling functions and what it does, as most of you know, if we look at services, so this is a bill, in essence, just wait for it to load. If we look at bills, there's just thousands of lines of line items and they may have some description against them. Most of them don't have a description, some of them have a line item cost, some of them won't have a line item cost. And this is just a good example of what that looks like. So now to make head of tails, this is quite difficult. So as Mike intimated, one of the most important things and something we could spend a lot of time on is how to make sense of this. This is done through tagging. Now, whether this data is being consumed from Azure or from Microsoft 365, we still have to be able to give business relevance to this data. And that we do through tagging on Azure. Of course, we have Azure tagging available, but most often customers will not. You will not have that tagging fully deployed. And so the platform provides its own smart tagging.
