Mike Austin explains how software auditors like Microsoft and IBM reconcile your actual devices and users against your inventory. Auditors typically expect 90-95% accuracy overall, with about 90% for desktops and 95% for servers. Perfect accuracy is impossible in dynamic environments where machines spin up and down constantly.

If you look at an audit, one of the first things the auditors ask for is give me your directory. And it's not just Microsoft, right? It's IBM audits, Adobe audits. And the reason is like I talked about earlier is that Venn diagram. They want to know if the device is active or users active. Do we have inventory? Think of the Venn diagram and it's in 90 to 95%. Now a lot of the times they'll tell you you want to have 90 to 95% data accuracy, 90 ish on desktops, 95% on servers is usually kind of the threshold. Now you're never going to get 100% right because and the reason is the environments are dynamic. In fact, you look at some environments and I could look at it, take a snapshot right now and then five minutes later take a snapshot. It could be different with, you know, V Motion and cloud and up down, all that sort of stuff, right?
