Can Treasury Professionals Move Internationally?

Mike Richards from a treasury recruitment company discusses whether treasury professionals can work internationally, covering visa sponsorship challenges and how Brexit has affected mobility between the US, Europe, and Asia.
Hello, it's Mike Richards from the treasury recruitment company here. I am often asked whether treasury folks are able to move internationally and if they are moving, where are they moving to? Now? Whilst treasury does focus on the international markets, there are limits. Treasury by its very nature is a global international profession. You guys know this. Many of my candidates are able to apply their trade anywhere in the world, but the limitation is placed on upon us by our governments. So work visas and then relative geographies. What do I mean by this? Whilst there are many changes in the US markets in terms of political and the impact that that's had, political markets and the impact that's had on the financial markets and themselves in Europe, we've got Brexit looming and the UK wanting to leave the European Union. But I get asked, has Brexit directly impacted treasurers within the UK and what they do? No, is the answer. As treasury professionals, you guys spend a lot of your time planning for and get ready for what will happen post Brexit. This does mean that the markets that we're dealing in are more cautious and a skilled treasury professional can prove their case to work anywhere. However, making the move is not easy. I get asked by lots of US and European based candidates, they say, Mike, can I make a move from Europe across the US or can I move across from the Atlantic, the Atlantic side US to the uk, Switzerland, Belgium. Easy answer. You can't. No. Due to sponsorship issues, unless you are sponsored by an employer, you can't make the move in terms of moving within the US or between say the US and Canada, that's less of a problem. If you want to move within Europe, that's much easier. It's also an easy move if you wanted to head across from, say to the Middle east or across Asia from Europe and things like that because they are much more willing and open. If you want us to help you get a work visa or you want to apply for a job where you think they will sponsor you, I can tell you it's very simple, they won't. It doesn't happen. However, if you want to apply for a role in any country that you have the right to work in, then send us your cv. We can help place you and give you free constructive advice. Not bad. Hey, speak to you soon. Hope I can help.
