Connect Wisely on LinkedIn

This is a YouTube video titled "Connect Wisely on LinkedIn" containing a talk by Mike Richards recorded in November 2020. In this talk, Mike Richards advises on how to selectively build professional connections post-conference, emphasizing quality over quantity and the importance of personalized connection requests rather than generic ones, especially on platforms like LinkedIn.
When you're doing connections post this conference, you want to be selective. Now what do I mean by being selective? It's not just gathering every card from every stand that you can get here. It's a quality thing. What you want to do is look at someone's card. Are they going to be useful to you, as in your network and are you going to be useful to them? As I say here, don't be afraid to say no, they won't find out. They don't get a notification, she didn't connect to you. Oh God. But what you do get, and you do actually get a much more powerful network and people have asked me, they said, mike, well, you know, what's the point? I've got 50 odd connections. But you're looking at a new treasury management system and you say, oh, you go out to your 50 connections, say, oh, do you use it? And all of them, you know, two of them come back, oh yeah, we do, it's all right, thanks very much. You go out to 505 connections, suddenly it becomes something of worth and it's going to help you. Also, as a good example, I get lots of connection requests. I don't, I don't connect to everybody. I only tend to accept connection requests when it's in a country we serve and recruit for or an industry as well. Obviously we just do treasury want to connect wisely, add a personal touch. A lot of you will be tempted to send a connection request from your mobiles. Please don't. It's horrible. Good example. Actually we talked about this other day. When was the last time you walked into a party, just walked up and said, hi, I'm Mike Richards, Great connect, great. Oh good, can we make connections? Thank you very much. That's all you're doing, you're just walking up to a total stranger and saying, connect to me. What I would suggest is you go, you know, go back from this conference and you reach out to the people and say, oh, we met at this networking party, we spoke about the different systems you're using, we spoke about how you're implementing these different initiatives in these different countries. Maybe it be useful to have each other in the connection, each other as connections rather. So it's a good thing to do. Mobiles, please don't. It's horrible. Good example, actually we talked about this other day. When was the last time you walked into a party, just walked up and said, hi, I'm Mike Richards, Great connect, great. Oh good, can we make connections? Thank you very much, Bye. That's all you're doing. You're just walking up to a total stranger and saying.
