Joel Campbell, a recruiter with 30+ years in the field, explains how his views on flexible and hybrid work have shifted. He now prioritizes what actually gets done over where people sit.
And when you've been recruiting, maybe, Joel, what have you been thinking about? Or how has this changed for you? Would you say? Yeah, I. I would echo the same sentiments, I think, you know, I. I've had. Even though. Even though I am wired a certain way and I have certain things that I would prefer, like, I've had to realize that not everybody's wired that way. I have, you know, 30 plus years of experience. I'm used to driving to a downtown office five days a week, working 12 hours a day, and driving home. Like, that's. That. That's how I grew up in my career. I don't know anything different. So I think for me, I've had to learn how to become more flexible. And not only flexible with whether you're hybrid and you want to come in or not. But even as we're working hybrid, a couple of my teammates who are here will tell you we're really flexible throughout the day. If you need to take off and take care of a sick child or something, I want the work to be done. I'm more focused on the work getting done than I am how you actually do it. If your work's not getting done, we're gonna have a very different conversation. But if your work's getting done and you're productive and you're pushing things forward and you're leading like you're supposed to, I've had to learn how to lean into letting that be okay, even though maybe I'm not associate with that person as I would like, or I'm not seeing them in person as much and being able to interact with them. As long as their work is getting done and they're putting out good product, I've had to lean into being okay with that.
