Mike replying to Joes comments about the gap between job title and salary

Mike Richards responds to Joe's comments about how treasury job titles often don't match the actual work or pay. He explains why titles can be misleading and discusses how salary surveys help people understand what they should actually earn for their role.
Joe, it's Mike here. As you see this video, I just want to come back to your post here and do I do it in video format. So you're talking here in treasury markets about job title responsibility and then salary compensation. So the first thing about that I would say is I talked to a client about this the other day, that there is confusion because someone might call themselves, as we have in our treasury salary survey. At treasurysalary.com we often get, hi, I'm the head of Treasury. I'm like, great, look at their background, look at their salary, look at everything else. I'm like, whoa, you might be the lead treasury person at your company, but you are only one person. You are the head of Treasury. The head of treasury of 1. Whereas we also assess people that are global treasurers. So actually that's one of the things we do within salary, within the survey and we benchmark different people as we go through it and stuff. And so say looking for new roles, people looking at higher practitioners. That's again, as you say, that's where we add the value. We asked someone, I was just talking to someone yesterday saying, you want a senior treasury manager. Yes. I said, okay, what does that look like? So who does it supervise? Who does it report into the reports into a head of finance. Okay, so is it a treasurer? No, it actually turns it not. It's actually role we're going to recruit is probably senior treasury analyst. Not even a Treasury manager role. And they're like, oh. I said, yeah, supervised a couple of analysts. Yeah, senior treasury analyst role. So that's what we're going to look for. And that's where we offer value to clients and to candidates and help. And says here, a new job, don't limit yourself. Valid. Yes. Yeah. For example, you'd be a treasurer. Small. Yeah, exactly. Could be the treasury analyst or a Treasury manager. And most senior job title is one data point. We work with clients of all. Identify these gaps if you need help. Exactly. There. So, yeah, take part in the salary survey. That's a good way to benchmark yourself. But then if you're going, I am the most senior person at my company, but I want to join a bigger company. Who should I join? What should I look for in my career? And that is where we add the money. All right, thanks very much.
