Mike Richards talks about the challenges treasury professionals face when managing remote teams

Mike Richards discusses what keeps treasury professionals happy and why they leave their jobs. Beyond salary, work-life balance, good leadership, and job variety matter most. He cites findings from a global Treasury Salary Survey.
And Leanne talks there about talent. And that's why I'm here up on here talking about the talent issue you guys face. Back in lockdown, I was asked to give a session to the nact. So some of the top treasurers across the US and did a great virtual session. We were talking about some of the issues they were facing. That was just as we were. There was people were returning to the office and we run a global Treasury Salary Survey. Treasurysalary.com do that, go there. Helps you benchmark your salary and everything else. But as what actually was happening, one of the key things is, although we ask about salary, we will also ask what keeps you happy and what makes you unhappy. Now that's always been part of our survey and what we've discovered because everyone said, well, salary service about the money, isn't it? It's not about the money. And this as part of the session nact, they were saying, so what do we need to do to be more effective leaders? I said, well, I'm going to go back to my survey, okay. And we ranked all the answers and why were there people happy in the teams? Because they had a good work life balance, good boss, varied work, friendly team, enjoyable workplace. And then salary, that was salary. Keeping people Happy was actually 6 on the list. When you're unhappy, it was lack of progression, then salary, then poor boss, lack of challenge and everything else from there. And we'll go about the return to work and actually working from home in a moment. But then they asked me, there was this question, they said, what should I do to keep my team? I said, well, it's really simple. Go to them and say, how's your work life balance? How am I being as a boss? Am I giving you enough variety in your role? You know, how are the team? How are you finding it said literally, ask these and you'll get rid of 85% of your levers and they will stay with you. And sometimes, yeah, there is a time where people have to leave or it's right for their careers, but you don't have to, don't force them out the door sort of thing.
