He discusses treasury salary surveys, LinkedIn profile tips, upcoming live events, and podcast highlights related to treasury professionals. The content is a monologue aimed at treasury professionals and recruiters.
So welcome to this week's Mike's Insights, my video blog, which I do every week now, week seven, but yes, well, two weeks into 2025, it's been a busy week, let me tell you. Lots of you are looking for new roles, happy to help send us your CVs, resumes, but a lot of you are starting to recruit, which is really good. I thought it would be a little bit longer because it's usually a bit quieter this time. December is very quiet, usually everyone's Christmas parties, whereas now people are actually starting to recruit. And in actual fact, and on that, Katie, my colleague, we were going to record it today, we're actually going to do it on Monday. Katie's got three fantastic opportunities coming along. Senior treasury analyst roles and a couple of treasury manager roles around that level sort of thing. Perfect. If you're looking to make your next step. A lot of people will be getting their pay reviews. So we're doing our salary survey and I can't believe it. We've got 1,261. I. Yeah, I can't believe it. For the latest salary survey we're going to do for January, so that's where we're going to do snapshot. In fact, I think we'll get more people over the weekend, so we're going to approach that 1300 and more than half of you have actually recently updated your salaries in the past month. So we keep it up to date as well. And it's not some BS survey. I've seen two other salary surveys come out just past week or so. Yeah, they're not worth the paper they're written on. Please don't write them on paper, it's just a waste. I know what I do with that piece of paper. What I mean by that is telling me that a group Treasurer of a FTSE 100, if you are one, don't worry, we know what your average salary is and we're not going to tell you that your salary is between 80,000. Yes, 80,000 and 120,000. No, no, no, no, that's not right. That's not true. Gets me get off my high horse now. No, our survey is from you guys is from real treasury professionals. It's not finger in the air. That's what I had to do when I worked for another recruitment company. I was asked by my boss, came across my desk, said, look, treasury analyst. Yeah, yeah. What's the lowest paid one? I went, well, this 30,000 or whatever at the time. What's the Highest paid one? 70. 70 something like that. Great. That's our range. No, that's just two people I know. No, no, that's our range and we're average. What do you think? And I gave a number. Oh, that'll go in the survey. Just write it. You fill out the rest of these boxes, you know, roughly. But it's not real. And to this day I remember it's burnt on my mind and I'm going. Is that really what you do with your book of your salary survey? Yes, that's what we do. And that's what a lot of other companies, reputable companies, do. This or the other thing they do is they sometimes scrape LinkedIn and other websites and say, oh, it's advertised for an average salary between this and this. Does it usually end up at that average? No. So it's just made. Ours isn't. Ours is real. It's you guys taking part. So 1,261 so far. Thank you very much. Other things. Let's get on. So, LinkedIn tips. I gave some in. There were some good links in this week's newsletter. So. So ensure your photo is visible to everyone. LinkedIn changed their privacy rules a while ago. And so it means that if you're not a first tier connection to someone sometimes and I saw a recruiter with this the other day. A rival recruiter. Yes. Because they are a little gray blob. They don't. You can't see their picture if you're a second tier connection because they haven't adjusted their privacy settings so people can see you. It's like something crazy, like 31 times more likely to make a connection if you've got a picture there and then behind your picture. Showcase yourself on mine. You'll see. I've got some. You know, they've done this carousel. We've got two or three images, the wallpaper. So I put up about our podcast and the salary survey and our live events which will come to. That goes on there. Get a nice photo. Just take one, you know, out, out the window where you are now. See if you can get a decent one. Put that as your wallpaper. Make it more interesting if you want to even make it a bit salesy. Seen someone the other day which was really good. They told a little bit about who they were. Professional treasury manager and da, da, da. And give a little bit more. Just a little quote and you can use Canva for free. Put it up there. It's really good way of doing it. Be careful though. I did actually have to point out someone the other Day they obviously in their profile they say they've got attention to detail, accuracy spelled treasury wrong in their wallpaper. So, yeah, move on. Okay. Other things podcast Shout out this week had Gary Murphy from Sodexo. Blooming great guest, great conversation. Go to treasurycareercorner.com talking about Sodexo managing Treasury teams on a global basis from Dublin. Thank you, Gary, for being on the podcast. Really good to have you. And I say Saturday survey, we're going to run. I'm going to run the figures next week. So we give the January slice and then snapshot and then I'm also going to do one in July. Fantastic. And finally to finish off I our treasury career corner lives, we are coming back at you. We are out there in March, 20th of March, we are going to be in New York and I can exclusively reveal. Should have some music, shouldn't I? Summer Simmons, the treasurer at Victoria Secret, she is blooming brilliant. She shared the stage with me at AFP along with Nicole Meyer. We were talking about networking. This time we're going to talk about her career live on stage in New York, hopefully in Times Square once again, which would be great. Would love you to come and join us. It was amazing last time we, you know, when we did it in March, we had March and September. So far, attendees, I think we've had 160 over the three events. The last night that we did in the March time, when we did last time, we had 75 people, 75 treasurers in the room. Amazing treasurers. So we're going to do it again 20th Thursday, 20th of March, put it in diary. Then after that we're going to head off to Houston and then we're doing London the summer in June at the Herbert Smith again. We've got Dublin straight after that as well. We've moved it. We did it in September, we moved that forward. So before the summer and then after the summer we've got Chicago and New York once again. Chicago, yeah, coming back. Then we've got Eurofinders and AFP going to be there and then we're also doing a London, London event and Amsterdam. So, yeah, we're coming to Amsterdam, the Netherlands. So looking forward to these treasury career corner lives. What I also do a big shout out to our sponsors. We'll actually announce that later because we're still just coming to the final, you know, sorting out exactly who's sponsored. We couldn't put them on without you. You know, your support means that we can travel there. We can also fly in some of the guests, which we're doing. So we're going to have some even better lineup for you in 2025. Thanks very much for me this week. And looking forward to. I'm actually quite enjoying these. Don't tell Deirdre, but these quite good. And just do it from there. All right. See you soon.
