This is a YouTube video titled "Part 2 What is your Personal Brand" containing a monologue by Mike Richards recorded in November 2020. In this English-language content, Mike Richards discusses the concept of personal branding, its evolution over the past 20 years, and the importance of managing one's online presence and reputation in the modern digital and social media landscape.
So let's get on to your personal brand. This man you might have heard of, he talks about what he says. Jeff says, you know, we'll trust what Jeff says. But he says your brand is what other people are saying about you. I think that's partially right because it's developed. It's not just about what they say nowadays with LinkedIn, social media and all of that stuff is public. It's what they say, think and more importantly, actually believe about you. And we've seen lots of disasters happening where your PR disasters and things like that. What is a personal brand? 20 years ago, when I started in treasury recruitment, for instance, and many of you perhaps got into treasury, some, perhaps a few more years ago, got into Treasury. It was called a reputation. It was years of hard work to build it up. You built it up, destroyed in an instant. Nowadays, you make a powerful thing. You set up a web page, you do your LinkedIn, you do all your networking, one social media post something on Twitter, something retweeted, something that comes back to you five years later. You've got sports players in your country that are now being things that they did when they were kids. It's being dragged out for them. So it's no longer if you've got a personal brand, it's actually how you make it powerful. But you might say, hang on, Mike, I do LinkedIn, I do those things. You're a recruiter. I'm not looking for a job. It's not about looking for a job. Your social media profile is there 24 7. Anyone can access it, any part of the world. It's your colleagues. What have you been doing at the weekend? What have you been doing from employers? If they're looking at you, what are your colleagues looking at? Clients. If they're wanting to get an impression, you're going to go meet them. They'll check you out all the time. It's actually a silent seller for you. It's constantly selling you whilst it does the job for you. It's your sales page, if you like.
