Tim Muindi talks about taking on expanded responsibilities across treasury, credit, collections, and T&E. His broader role let him influence working capital decisions and work across multiple finance teams instead of staying siloed in one function.
A great opportunity opened up when we had one of our finance operations leaders. He left. And so my boss at the time said, I don't think we're going to sell that role. Do you want to take it? And I said, I'm not sure if I want to take on credit, collections, T and E, all these other things. Thought to myself, like, if I'm going to have the influence, especially on working capital, there's no better role in addition to Treasury, I should say. And so taking on that role, I got to learn a lot about, first of all, people working with a different group of people, especially on the finance operations side, but then they're also connected to other multiple teams. And so the level of influence grows because now you start bringing data to life and you bring it to the executive team, for example, and say, here's what I'm seeing. At the end of the day, it's going to be a dollar in, a dollar out. But here's what I'm seeing as the drivers, right? And here's how I think we can influence that change. So I actually enjoyed that experience. It was challenging, but I really enjoyed it. Just learning something new and being able to see what happens, especially at treasury, sometimes we end up on the front end, but this one, you actually get to influence things when you see.
