Treasury Leaders Playbook: What I Learned From Our Roundtables in New York and London

Mike Richards ran treasury roundtables in New York and London, then turned the conversations into a free playbook. Do you know, I almost made this mistake again. Earlier this year, we ran our Treasury Leaders Roundtables in New York in March. Amazing conversations, senior treasury professionals in the room. It was amazing. 36 treasurers came and joined us. Lots of insight. What was working for them? What wasn't working for them as treasurers? What challenges were they facing? And then got back to the UK, sat down with my business coach Brian, and he asked me, he said, Mike, one very simple question, very difficult, challenging question. What follow-up did you do? Answer was not very much, not enough. I had all these pages of notes, recordings, ideas from the sessions. It's all Chatham House rules. But apart from sharing a few snippets with people over LinkedIn and things like that, most of these insights never really left the room, and that's not acceptable. That annoyed me because the whole point of these conversations and these events is not just to have one great conversation with another person, it's to get together what an amazing group of treasury professionals and treasurers are actually saying then turn it into something magical, something useful for the wider Treasury community such as you guys. So when we ran our London Treasury Leaders Roundtables, didn't make the same mistake. We recorded a lot of the information within a day, put all the information together about the challenges that those Treasury leaders were facing. And we had everything. The afternoon itself was built around 4 major topics that were chosen by the Treasury leaders themselves. We had AI and automation, risk and regulation, people and leadership, cash liquidity and capital management. But when we reviewed all the materials afterwards and notes, something happened. Something interesting happened. The conversations weren't about the 4 topics. They kept coming back to the same practical challenges. Where are treasury teams wasting their time? Are they trying to solve technology problems or data problems, if you like? How do you actually make AI useful today rather than just talking about it? What risks are treasury teams now worrying about? that were barely on the radar a few years ago. So there are 8 major themes that the treasury teams are dealing with. So instead of filing the notes away for posterity, we turned them into a Treasury Leaders Playbook. It's a practical guide built from the real conversations that happened in the room with treasury professionals about what is actually happening inside their treasury teams today. Not the theory, not sponsor-led, questions and content. This wasn't from someone trying to sell you something. There's some real conversations happening with people, and I know that not everyone can come to our sessions in New York, London, Chicago, Amsterdam. We thought if we put those conversations together, we could share that value more widely. So we created a playbook, and in that playbook, which you can access to— I'll put the link in the notes and comments. Whether you're reviewing your own technology, improving cash forecasting, maybe thinking about AI, or simply deciding what your priorities should be over the next few months, this is there to help you. This is what the playbook does, and you can download it for free. Now, if you want to be part of the next playbook, the next conversation, welcome join us. We've got sessions happening later this year in— we're doing our New York roundtables, so come and join us. Say 36 last time. We had 40-odd treasurers in London in May. We're going to rerun it in November. I can't wait to see all of it. It's just amazing. We've got lots and lots more events happening, but come and be part of the conversation. It's here to help you. That's why we run the events. So looking forward to seeing you. And let's meet— catch up for a beer or coffee very soon. Thanks very much. Bye.
