This is a YouTube video titled "Why Treasury & FP&A Careers Deserve More Attention in Business Education" containing a discussion from February 25, 2025, featuring Mike Richards and another speaker. The conversation focuses on the need for better education and awareness about treasury and financial planning & analysis careers among early career professionals and business students, highlighting the lack of emphasis on these paths in business schools compared to accounting and investment banking.
But I know that you were talking about education, what you think treasury professionals need to do next. What are you thinking or what's the advice you're going to give to people or what do you want?
There are a couple things. One, for the last couple years and we had it, it was something we focused on at the opening general session is I think it's focusing on the early career people. We had a group of students from the Kelly School of Business. We had a group of early career is young men and women who are the future for treasury and finance. And one of the things that I am really committed to and it's pretty clear to me when you go to US undergraduate business schools and you could probably speak more to those outside the United States, but I've been to universities around the world, they really don't understand or focus on treasury or finance careers. They focus on accounting careers and they focus on investment banking, portfolio management, maybe a little bit of wealth management. And I think it's, I think it's probably a long haul project. But what always amazes me is you go into a good business school and there is not a professor or career services people that understand a career in treasury or a career in financial planning and analysis. So one of the things I'd like to do is for the future is really see if that could be further developed and that these two career tracks become a little much more transparent to students. Because you know what? Everyone can't go to Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan. Everyone is not going to go to JP Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan. Accounting profession has their own challenges and there's these great careers in treasury and FP&A. And I think it's a disservice to these young men and women that they don't understand the career paths.
