Would You Say No to Chips? Why Treasury Careers Work the Same Way...

This is a YouTube video titled "Would You Say No to Chips? Why Treasury Careers Work the Same Way..." created in March 2025. It features Mike Richards from Treasure Recruitment discussing the dynamics of the treasury job market, recruitment trends, upcoming events, and career opportunities. The content is a monologue-style career and recruitment update aimed at treasury professionals, sharing insights on market activity, bonuses, and networking events.
Hello, Mike Richards here, Treasure Recruitment company. Get straight in the video. Welcome back. This week's video is about our newsletter, which was a part of chips or fries, as you say in America. Someone would have put a part of chips and say, would you resist? Would you like one? So someone commented that if you put that in front of me, I'm gonna want one. That's exactly like the jobs and careers market, if you like. And. And in Treasury, Nick Miles, good mate, said, I'd always move for those chips in that photo. I went, exactly. That's how it works. If the right opportunity comes along, you're gonna take it, you're gonna make your move. And this newsletter got some really good attention and a number of reactions. Lots of confidential approaches. I've been approached by people who aren't actively looking on LinkedIn. They look on LinkedIn a little bit, but I've got messages like, mike, I'm happy in my role, but could you let me know about new roles if they fit my background? I'm not out there, I need to do my resume. But now you know me, can you just. Happy to reach out. And this reminded me about a talk I gave in AFP in the us Doing a lot more with those guys, more to announce soon. I asked the audience who is actively looking in the market. 5% of hands went up. Boom. Yeah, Actively out there, people between roles and things. I said, okay, so the rest of you, you're not looking right, okay. But the 95% of you who didn't put your hand up, if I call you tomorrow, today with a great career enhancing role that pays you more money, offers you greater progression, work, life, balance, brilliant. Are you going to return my call? Are you going to drop me an email back? Put your hands up if you would. 90 of the hands. For the 10 of you that haven't put your hands up, I know you're sitting next to your bosses. You can send me your CVs or resumes later. And they're, oh, yeah, good. Got a good laugh. But actually with a serious message, people, whilst they might not be actively searching, we get this in our salary survey. You're not actively in the job market but you are always open to hearing about it. There's very few people I would say when I actually talk to them, probably only about 3% of people. So 3 out of 100 that won't return our call. So if you are looking to recruit, give us a call. We're talking to those people, we meet them, our events. But also people say, oh, Mike, I'm gonna. That's great. Thanks for the message. I'm gonna reach out. That's okay. But I do need to warn you, the market is quiet. Is it us? No, it's. Everyone is quiet. Why? It's bonus season. I keep telling you guys because I got an email from a client, a candidate yesterday saying, why is it so quiet? I said, you're in your job, right? It was like, yeah. Are you moving yet? No, I'm waiting for my bonus. There you go. That's why a lot of people in bonus season, you've got to wait till the cycle comes through. You get, we're in March now, you're going to get your bonus the end of this month. A couple of people have got it in February or you're getting your letter, you know that you're going to get it. So now you're starting actually looking around a lot more. So you're getting your bonus. Us hiring as well. Little bit stilted, a little bit change of administration. People are just waiting till the dust settles a little bit. A couple of clients I'm talking to have said, look, we want to talk now, but we probably won't kick off the process for until middle of Q2. So I'm like, okay, let's, let's get it done. That's actually why I'm in New York in a couple of weeks time and actually I'm going to be meeting a couple of CFOs, talking about whether they want to recruit in the UK, Europe or the US so we're meeting those guys and also we've got a couple of other calls coming up the week after when I get back with UK based treasurers about how they're going to change some of their team. So the roles are coming through. So this week's podcast, Jackie Bowie from Chatham Financial. Great interview with Jackie. We made it very much about treasurers. We're not just talking about Chatham, but actually how she sees the market for treasurers, how they have. You guys have to cope with so much. Really good podcast with her. We do have the video interview coming up soon. Also did an International Women's Day post. Just giving a name check out to a lot of the ladies that I've had on the show over the past six and a half years. Couldn't fit all of you because LinkedIn won't let me. But if you go there, there's a link to it. You can listen to some great podcasts. We're giving you all the links to the shows, upcoming events where I'M heading head to the US as I say treasury career corner live in New York, month later Houston, then a couple of days later Texas. Why do I do these events to help you guys. I'll be interviewing nine treasurers over three day three events. About to announce another speak of our Houston event. Launched it two days ago. We're already 25 full crazy. I think we've got room for 50. We've got 13 people already signed up. Yeah. In two days. So it's going to be a really good one to come. Join us on Thursday, April 24, 6 o' clock 6:30 session 7:30 networking drinks and catch up and you get free CTP credits. All of our live events get CTP credits. So come along. Same applies for New York and textbook. You can also get your credits meeting Jeremy Denisia and Martan in text boats. That's gonna be great. Looking forward to next week's newsletter. Big topics coming up, lots of if you're hiring, call us. If you're looking for your next move, drop us an email. Both Katie and Carly covering the UK and European market, they're getting much busier. It's starting to come through, obviously operational levels as well. Joe is helping me on the US and as I said, we're talking about some senior roles but they take time. We need to recruit, call us. Need to look for a role. Drop me an email. Explain.
