A short conversational excerpt from a YouTube interview titled "The Life Lessons of Growing Up on a Farm." In this chunk a speaker recalls having wide freedom on the family farm (quoted: "it was 80 acres and 10 acres"), describing the farm as a playground while also emphasizing early assigned jobs and a sense of usefulness and teamwork during childhood.
I had massive freedom on the farm. As long as I stayed inside the boundaries of the farm I could do anything I wanted. But it was, you know, it was 80 acres and 10 acres.
It was the greatest playground you could possibly have for me, for me. But right from the beginning I had jobs to do. The moment I could carry something or I could do something I I had jobs, you know. And I think that sense of usefulness as part of something, as part of a teamwork of something bigger is very important for boys. It's very important for boys.
I, I would say.
You know, the extent of my so I spent quite a bit of time on the farm that my dad grew up on in McIntyre, Iowa and I spent, I always spent at least a week if not two weeks with my grandparents until my grandfather died of a stroke. And so I remember the farm life and I also remember the stories.
