Mike Koenigs explains how Trump uses tariff threats to demand attention from other countries. When Trump threatened 25% tariffs on Canada, the prime minister flew to Mar-a-Lago. He applied the same pressure on Mexico, operating on reciprocal tariff logic: if you raise them, we respond.

And Trump was saying we're not getting their attention. Big thing with Donald Trump is he has a way of getting people's attention and the way he does, I mean, I can see it in Canada because I live in Toronto. And he just said, well, we're just going to put 25% tariff on everything. All of a sudden he got their attention. The prime minister flew down to Florida to meet with him at Mar a Lago and he didn't impress the president. So he said, maybe you're not a real country and maybe you're not a prime minister, maybe you're just a govern there. And that got his attention. And he quit. He basically quit. He resigned. That's tension. He did the same thing with Mexico. So the big thing is that it has to be reciprocal. His whole notion, it has to be reciprocal. You drop your tariffs, we drop our tariffs. You put your tariffs on, we put our tariffs on.
