McCall McPherson explains why thyroid symptoms persist despite normal test results. Doctors often check only TSH instead of free T4, free T3, reverse T3, and antibodies. Labs use generic normal ranges instead of optimal ones, and T4-only medications like Synthroid don't work for everyone.

I find three things single handedly keep thyroid patients or people suffering with thyroid symptoms like fatigue and brain fog and weight gain and low libido and depression and high cholesterol and all the things those people are suffering with those symptoms because of three issues in medicine. Number one, they aren't getting the right labs run. They're only checking TSH and not a full thyroid panel, including that T4, free T3, reverse T3 and antibodies. I have my free thyroid lab guide in my profile if you need it. Number two, they're not using the right lab ranges. They are using normal, which there is no standardized normal lab range. Instead of optimal. Every range varies per lab per location. So you guys need to be in optimal ranges. You can be disabled basically from thyroid symptoms and be in normal ranges. So. So again, that's all included in my thyroid lab guide and my profile. And three, they're on the wrong medication. The number one prescribed medication in the country for most of the last five years is levothyroxine. Inactive thyroid hormones, those do not work in any dose for so many people. So many people need some form of active thyroid hormone like lyothyronine or armor or np and instead their clinician is repeatedly adjusting their dose of their T4 based medication like Levo and Synthroid and tyrosin and they will never get well on that medication. So those are your top three barriers. Those are some workarounds. I hope it helps.
