Stopping your thyroid medication and healing your thyroid problem naturally. Let's talk about this. I'm piggybacking off my girl, Dr. Jamie here, so appreciate her post. I'll tag her below. You guys, I need to get real with you, okay? Like let's have a heart to heart talk. So I practice functional medicine. I believe in functional medicine. I believe that the state standard approach to fixing thyroid problems is failing millions of people, hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Okay, so let's not get it twisted, but many of you are taking thyroid medication because you have lost actual inherent endogenous thyroid function. Part of your thyroid tissue is no longer adequately secreting hormones. You are such supplementing that loss of production with medication. That can be because of Hashimoto's meaning your body's attacked your thyroid gland. It's eroded away that hormone secreting tissue because it's attacked it from an immune standpoint. Or it can be to a due to a slow decrease in function over time or obviously a thyroidectomy and ablation, that kind of thing. Okay, A very small percentage of you are taking thyroid medication that can be fixed with lifestyle alone. I would estimate at modern thyroid clinic that accounts for 5 to maybe 8% of our patients. The rest of them have a permanent loss of thyroid function. Meaning you can live a perfect lifestyle and jump through all the hoops and your thyroid is not going to be producing that thyroid hormone adequately on its own. The people who are telling you to stop your thyroid medication cannot prescribe medication. They are dangling a carrot in front of your face saying that they have the answer and it doesn't involve medication because they are practicing medicine with one arm tied behind their back. Okay, don't listen to that. It can be dangerous and life threatening. And you know what it if you inappropriately stop your thyroid medication so you can naturally heal your thyroid problem, the likelihood of you ending up with diabetes or high cholesterol and getting put on other medications long term is grossly elevated. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
