McCall McPherson explains thyroid testing frequency: check labs every 3 to 3.5 months after starting or changing medication, then every 6 to 12 months once you're stable. Get a full panel including antibodies, and test sooner if symptoms shift.

How often do you need to check your thyroid? Let's talk about it while Rosie drinks her green juice post dinner. Okay, so at modern thyroid clinic, we check thyroid every time it's stable. What's going on with my hair? Every time it stabilizes. So about every three, three and a half months after we change meds. Excuse me, let me start over. After we change meds, we check labs about every three or three and a half months. And still, until people get their lives back, basically, until they know what opt optimal feels like, when they know what optimal feels like, we will start expanding the time to every six to 12 months. Because again, if they drift off course, even 10%, they can get labs, they can come back, we can redo things and go from there. But when you don't know what optimal feels like, it's really hard to know what's good, what's not good, what am I supposed to feel like? And so at that point, we have to rely on data until we really fix everything, give people their lives back. So until then, every three, three and a half months, we check full thyroid panels with antibodies or if symptoms change or they start to relapse and get worse. We want to see what's going on, so I hope that helps.
