McCall McPherson explains what reverse T3 is and why it builds up: too much T4 medication like Synthroid, caloric restriction, poor sleep, stress, and inflammation. To lower it, reduce T4 dosing if free T4 is above 1.2, improve diet and sleep, manage stress, and consider supplements like Designs for Health Thyroid Synergy.

How to get rid of reverse T3 if you don't know what reverse T3 it is a thyroid hormone that binds and blocks to the same landing spot as your active hormone, your T3 and your T3 is what makes you feel good and have a metabolism and be able to think and not be depressed and digest your food and all the things reverse T3 when it increases, binds and blocks that spot so you don't get to absorb your T3. Things that you can do to try to get rid of or mitigate reverse T3 1 is the most common cause that I see elevations in reverse T3 that create dysfunction is because people are over medicated on too much T4. Those are Synthroid, Levothyroxine, tyrosine, Unithroid. When those drugs are too high they create a huge Source for reverse T3 and then it becomes an issue. Other things that drive up reverse T3 are things that push your body into a state where it wants to recover, it wants you to lay down rest. And part of the reason it makes part of the ways it makes you tired is driving up that reverse T3. So think about those things. Caloric restriction, little micronutrients or protein, inflammation, poor sleep, stress, pregnancy, breastfeeding, sickness, those things all increase reverse T3. So try to reverse engineer those low inflammatory diet, reduce stress, eat enough protein and micronutrients, stay healthy, keep your immune system functioning well and that can mitigate a lot of reverse T3. You can also take a supplement to help you convert but nutrients like those few supplements I love designs for health, thyroid synergy as an example. I can put it in my Amazon thing. But that's not the only mechanism here. Like there are a lot of things at play that must be addressed in order to reduce reverse T3. But simply start with your T4. If you are overmedicated and your T4 is over 1.2, your free T4 that is.
