The misinformation surrounding GLP-1s

McCall McPherson argues GLP-1 weight-loss drugs aren't necessarily lifelong. His clinical program focuses on thyroid optimization, insulin sensitivity, and leptin resensitization to achieve what he calls metabolic healing, allowing most patients to stop medication while maintaining weight loss through lifestyle changes.

What if I told you you actually don't need to stay on a GLP1 weight loss medication in order to maintain your weight loss? My opinion on this varies, obviously greatly from traditional views on it. They think if you start this med, you have to be on it forever or you're going to magically regain all of your weight. This is my experience from developing and running an extremely successful weight loss program. And by success, I mean our freaking success rates are through the roof. Truly, this is not everyone, right? But our patients in our program, their thyroid is optimized, their hormones are optimized, we work on their lifestyle, we set them up for realistic success, and then we do not let them stop their weight loss medication just because they arrive at their goal weight. No, the key in this is people need to show metabolic healing. They need to show that their loss of metabolic potency, the reason they gained all this weight in the first place, has been fixed so that when they come off of these medications, they are able to successfully maintain their weight loss with reasonable lifestyle. Not over restricting, not over exercising. And when you do all of these things, when you optimize their blood sugar control, when you optimize their insulin sensitivity, when their leptin is now resensitized and not resistant, when all of these things collide, people are able, the vast majority of them, I never say all because I don't say all, don't say never. But the vast majority of people are able to come off of these medicines, maintain their weight loss, and often y' all even continue to lose weight without them. Yes. So again, are you going to get that from a random, you know, online practice that doesn't invest in long term outcomes with you? No, but it is possible.
