I was 27 when I was virtually disabled from hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's. I was spending 16 hours a day in bed. I'm not exaggerating. Every day I would go to work and I would come home and I would immediately go to bed to rest enough to recover from the day, to rest enough in preparation for the next day. Weekends were the same. That went on for almost a year. I was already practicing medicine. So I'm like, it's just my thyroid. They just need to adjust my Synthroid. It's not a big deal. The doctor will take care of it. Went to my doctor, had labs run, and he told me that I'm normal and that in fact, we need to reduce my Synthroid because my TSH is too low. But hey, you have a cholesterol problem. I'm gonna go ahead and put you on Lipitor at 27 and send you on your merry way. Thank God I didn't do that. Like, I don't think I'd literally be right here right now had I done that. I went home, cried on the way home, naturally, and through all the brain fog found a more progressive integrative medicine physician who changed— he did more in-depth lab work, he changed my medication, he changed the trajectory of my life, and my life became a mentor to me. And then I devoured everything I possibly could on thyroid and got absolutely as educated as I could, and from that, Modern Thyroid Clinic was born.
