Treating thyroid conditions without medication

McCall McPherson argues that online claims about healing thyroid conditions without medication are misleading. Hashimoto's destroys thyroid tissue that can't regrow, so people who lose function need hormone replacement or risk adrenal strain, fatigue, diabetes, and heart disease.

Isn't it better to just heal your thyroid than take active thyroid hormones? Let's talk about it and let's get controversial. Right? There are 1 million people on this app without any medical credentials or formal medical training saying that you can heal your thyroid and reverse your thyroid condition. And I'm not talking about Hashimoto's. And honestly, you need to be careful because can you reverse Hashimoto's? Yes. Does that mean your actual thyroid problem is going to go away? That you are going to regrow your thyroid gland tissue and miraculously not need thyroid medication anymore? Absolutely not. And anyone that tells you that cannot prescribe you medication, so they are selling you something that is not going to actually solve your problem, nor can they actually solve your problem. A lot of people, most people that have a thyroid condition have lost actual thyroid gland function either from Hashimoto's, an autoimmune disease that attacks your thyroid gland, erodes away that hormone secreting tissue, leaves it with scar inflammatory tissue that doesn't secrete hormones, or a slow degradation of your gland over time leading to again loss of hormonal producing tissue. Either of these scenarios, even if you put your Hashimoto's into remission today, I wave a magic wand and you don't have Hashi anymore. I don't have hashi anymore. Haven't had it for over a decade. That does not mean you are magically regrowing your tissue. If you cut off your pinky right and you eat a perfect diet, have a perfect lifestyle, does that mean that your pinky is going to heal more effectively? Yes. Might prevent an infection? Yes. Might leave less scarring? Yes. Are you going to regrow your pinky? No, you are not. You need to offset the loss of this pinky by functioning in other ways. Same exact thing with your thyroid gland. You are not going to regrow old tissue. You need to offset the loss of the tissue that you have lost. If you are not doing this, you are taxing your adrenal system. You are looking at later consequences to your long term health outcomes like diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, adrenal burnout, absolute fatigue after your adrenals can no longer compensate anymore. So that's the truth.
