McCall McPherson explains why patients on levothyroxine can have normal TSH and high T4 levels while still feeling exhausted, foggy, and gaining weight. Your body may not be converting inactive T4 into the active hormone you actually need. A full thyroid panel, not just TSH, shows what's really happening.

Shout out to all my people on thyroid medication out there. Going to blow your mind. The worse you are at using your thyroid medication, the better your labs will look to your doctor. This accounts for anyone on medications like levothyroxine, synthroid, tiroscent, unithroid, Levoxyl. The reason is because your doctor only checks your TSH or maybe your TSH and your T4. These medications manipulate your lab data because they are all inactive hormone or T4. What that does is it increases your inactive hormone if you can't activate it and make it usable. So you accumulate more and more and more that suppresses your tsh. So you go in complaining of symptoms of fatigue and brain fog and brittle nails and dry skin and weight gain and hair shedding and hair loss and all the things, and your doctor says it's not your thyroid. Your thyroid looks great. And the reason is because you're not activating your medication. It's not even usable in your body. It's not doing a darn thing but manipulating your labs. The more T4 you accumulate, the lower your TSH goes. The more T4 inactive hormone you accumulate, the lower your active thyroid hormone is another reason why you have to get a full thyroid panel.
