Man, we introducing a new segment this week called I Got 5 On It, where BD will discuss 5 players he's high on heading into the weekend. BD was the number 5. I got 5 on it. Talk to me, BD.
You already know. Shout out to the loonies. I got 5 on it. We start with number 1. Ooh, my boy. Now this is the only point guard outside of Steph Curry that it's like I have to tap in, right? That is my spirit player, the player I would wanna be like if I was in the league, LaMelo Ball.
Okay.
I think LaMelo, another All-Star year. You know, I want him to stay healthy, but I think Man, this dude is just, this is beautiful basketball when he plays. You know what I mean? Great joy. Number 2 coming in, Draymond Green. Draymond is my surprise. That's another one of my young protégés. You know, me and Draymond, we talk about you gotta have 1,000 moves, 100 moves and 1,000 counters, or 1,000 moves and 100 counters. So it looked like he getting off to a great start. Draymond Green, we talked about him, the year that he can have coming off the tail end of last year with more responsibility in Houston, you know, with the young team. Number 4, the front runner for Defensive Player of the Year. That's wild.
Anthony Davis. That's crazy.
Come on, man, that's my high five. You know, AD, I actually think 8th, The Lakers will be a much better team if AD is the focal point of the Lakers on the offensive end and on the defensive end. Feed the big man, he gonna produce. You know, he's a machine in numbers.
For sure.
And then at number 5, welcome back, Ja Morant.
Wow.
Where I think, you know what I do think? I think Anthony Edwards needs Ja Morant's Aggressiveness. Interesting. That's what I think is holding Anthony Edwards back. So I go with Draymond Green at number 5 because Draymond Green is a dog. He's a winner, you know what I mean? He's playing to win and he make winning plays as you seen, you know, he put, you know, was it Utah on they back with a round the back delay. I'm excited to see him back in the league feeling good. And so that would be, that's my high five.
High five, baby, I like it. I like LaMelo, I think LaMelo needs a healthy year. You know, we all know what he's capable of, so he just gotta stay healthy. Draymond Green, I think, you know, I really like that, giving the young fella some love. You know, he was kind of stuck in that logjam in OKC, but the good thing about that is, is he know how to be a pro because that's a great organization. And he was working behind Shea Gildress-Alexander, And when you watch him play, some of that stuff looks a little shady-ish. So I like that one.
Yeah, yeah.
Draymond Green, I like that one a lot as well. I think Draymond Green, like you said, closing out the year, he had a really, really great stretch that second half of the season. And you know, he was averaging probably almost close to 30 points, if not averaging 30 points.
Close to 30 something.
So I like that one. At number 4, you had—
The front runner for Defensive Player of the Year.
At number 4, he had—
Draymond Green.
Anthony Davis, who's campaigning for Defensive Player of the Year already after game 1. AD, stop it, man.
You out here acting like Trump. Put that pressure on him, AD. Put that pressure. I like this though. I like AD doing that. He's gonna put pressure on you.
I like it too, for real.
He's gonna put some, yeah.
Like, state it. You know what I'm saying? Like, speak on it. His whole career hasn't been a guy that would necessarily come out and say that. So I actually, that's growth for real. So I actually love to see that too. And we all know AD is one of the most special players in this league. So no need for me to spend a bunch of time there. And then at number 5, Ja Morant. The league is better when Ja's playing. Plain and simple.
Yep.
There's a highlight or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 every single time he steps on the court. The Memphis Grizzlies is a totally different team when he's on the court. They all follow his bravado.
Yeah.
And he's a great leader. And so I like it, you know, bringing Memphis back, trying to get them back to where they were a couple years ago. Like I see a lot of people wrote Ja off last year. You know, the NBA is a very, what have you done for me lately? And so everybody started writing him off last year, putting him in the top guys under 25 and all that nonsense. So I'm excited to see Ja come out and have the year that we all know Ja gonna have. If Ja's on the floor.
He gonna be there.
Which leads us to our hella outta pocket moment for the week. And what do you know? Our hella outta pocket moment for the week is none other than the Detroit Pistons.
Bro.
Having 6 players on the floor. At one time. They hella out of pocket. It changes the momentum of the game. It was a close game. That's hella out of pocket.
I mean, this is my look to Draymond Green. Are you serious? Hey, Doc, and they were about to throw the ball to the guy that was open in the corner.
Hey, bro, you should've seen the fourth dude. On the team they was playing, he went to the 5th dude, you know, the 5th dude went to the 5th man and he hesitated and he was like, "Hold on, somebody open in the corner." Come on, y'all. Hey.
Bro, they inbounded the ball. Bro, they inbounded the ball and brought the ball up court with 6 players.
—They hell outta pocket, man.
Way outta pocket.
They hell outta pocket.
They hell outta pocket.
Hell outta pocket. Hell outta pocket.
