Draymond Green says Brian Windhorst is WRONG about Serbia being USA Basketball’s biggest threat

In this debut episode of the Draymond Green Show, Draymond Green opens by praising Patty Mills and critiquing Australia’s turnover woes before turning to the main debate with Brian Windhorst, who claims Serbia is the United States’ biggest Olympic basketball threat. Draymond counters that Serbia’s advantage hinges on Nikola Jokic, but they lack a guard who can match the emerging All‑Star Tyrese Halliburton, making the threat overstated. He then broadens the discussion, ranking Germany as the second‑best team and arguing that Canada’s lack of continuity and talent prevents them from challenging the USA, especially without Jamal Murray at an elite level. Draymond also delves into the puzzling Team USA rotation, suggesting the coaching staff prioritizes keeping Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Bam Adebayo, and Anthony Edwards together, which explains limited minutes for Joel Embiid and the erratic playing time of other stars. Throughout, he mixes personal observations, FIBA‑versus‑NBA nuances, and a dismissive tone toward the notion that any team can realistically rival the United States in Olympic basketball.

Patty Mills, I told y'all about Patty Mills, man. Patty Mills and FIBA. Y'all realize Patty Mills couldn't get off the bench on like 3 different teams this year. Patty Mills in FIBA is one of the best players I've ever seen. It's crazy.. And he almost willed them and they got walked down though. Turnovers have been an issue for Australia the whole tournament. They had a couple turnovers down the stretch. Giddey, Giddey I think struggles with that. I know this to be certain from the NBA, but also FIBA's even a little different. Shout out to Charlie. Giddey struggles with like the point guards picking you up full every time. And he flipped it at the end of the game. And Australia's headed home and Serbia's headed to meet Team USA. Now let's get into it. Wendy talking about Serbia is the biggest threat to Team USA.
Stop it. Serbia is still the biggest threat to the US. And I know it's a tough sell because you'd say, well, they just beat 'em by 26. The only thing I can say about it is that both times the US played Serbia, they've been red hot from 3-point range. Red hot. When the US plays Serbia, it's an uncomfortable style of game.
And here's why that don't work. That doesn't work because they have Joker, no question. They don't have a guard that can compete with Tyrese Halliburton. That is zero disrespect to Tyrese Halliburton, but Tyrese Halliburton has been the guard out of the rotation in Team USA. Tyrese Halliburton is an all-star guard now, two-time all-star. He's gonna continue to be an all-star. And Tyrese Halliburton is working, soon to be one-time gold medalist, is working on building a Hall of Fame resume. That is currently the trajectory of his career. If he continues to do what he's doing, I have no doubt that he's gonna continue to put the numbers up that he's doing. Get the All-Stars and all of the things, maybe be on Team USA again in 2028. He's the guard out of the rotation. That's the only reason I use Tyrese Halliburton in. He's the guard out of the rotation. With the exception of Team USA and Shay, probably the best guard in the Olympics. Yeah. Outside of Team USA and Shay. So again, Serbia, if Serbia had Hallie, it'd be a different story. They could compete more. They don't have the guard play. They don't have the play around Joker to be able to compete with Team USA. And by the way, Joker, they were, I think, even when Joker was on the court. Yeah. It ain't gonna even be that way. Because now Team USA locked in. That's the first game of the Olympics coming out the gate. That's always an adjustment. It ain't gonna even be that way. And that's no knock to Joker, but them guys around him, it ain't gonna do it. No chance. So there's that. Wendy, I totally disagree with you actually. Because the next best team in the Olympics is Germany. They're the second best team. The gap between number one and two is very significant, but one and two is Team USA and then Germany. Y'all wanted to give it to Canada, but the reality is, I told y'all about Canada and we'll get back into it. Yeah. Y'all wanted to give that to Canada, but they don't have the continuity that the Germanies have, that these guys have been playing together for 10 years. Canada just now coming, but they still don't have the level of talent that— excuse me, Canada still doesn't have the level of talent that Team USA has. So the problem that they have is coming together a few weeks before like Team USA do, that's never gonna work. It's never gonna work. They depend a little bit more upon Dylan Brooks scoring. He had 2 points. Jamal Murray didn't have a great Olympics at all. Jamal Murray is an elite player. If Canada's gonna compete on a level with Team USA, Jamal Murray has to be playing at an elite level. So I'm only saying these things to really try to help y'all understand, like stop the noise. Like stop trying to compare people to the United States of America in basketball. And stop trying to make it like these teams can compete with Team USA. They can't. And Team USA is getting away with a lot of stuff. Like I still don't understand the rotations. The only thing I understand about the rotation is that KD, AD, Bam, and Anthony Edwards are going to play together. And to me, I think the one way to explain the rotations are they want those 4 players together. And so when you look at like Joel in the lineup, they're out the lineup and like the different things, that's also a byproduct of those 4 guys being together. Mm-hmm. To me, in watching, it feels like, and Joel played a lot better, by the way, today. Like in the last 2 games, he's starting to find his way. But I think it's a big adjustment for him. Like he finding his way now, he learning how to play a role. And since Joel been playing basketball, I'm not sure, except for when he was like, when he, the video of the Mount Verde, where he was under the rim and threw it. He ain't, I don't think he's ever played a role outside of the role that he plays. And so I think he's starting to make that adjustment now and learning how to play that role. And now he's looking a lot better and fitting in the Team USA, but he was kind of on the verge of being all the way out, which the one game we did see that. And however, I think one of the things that kept him in was they didn't wanna split up AD and Bam. And now he's found it and Joel finding it, that's great for us. Mm-hmm. So, however, but then he didn't play in the second half. So I don't get it. Little confused by the rotation. But anyway, in saying that, then JT didn't play like the first 14 minutes of the game or 15 or 13, 14 minutes. And then he did. So I'm just a little confused by the rotations. But nonetheless, even in not figuring that out, no one's 20 as— 20. Within 20 points as good as Team USA. And so that's interesting.
