In this monologue, Draymond Green addresses the ongoing MVP discussion between Victor Wembanyama ("Wemby") and Shai Gilgeous‑Alexander ("Shai"). He rebuts claims that he said Wemby should be MVP, stating he still believes Shai is the rightful MVP. Green emphasizes that Wemby needs more "signature moments" and must actively engage with the media to secure votes, noting that modern award voting is heavily driven by media narratives. He references veteran commentator Q Rich’s criticism of "politicking" and argues that media influence is now unavoidable, citing Evan Mobley’s need to speak up to win Defensive Player of the Year as an example. Green concludes that players who ignore media advocacy risk disadvantaging themselves in award considerations.

Chapters

A lot has been made of Wimby politicking for MVP. Q Rich, one of the OGs, says, "I hate it. Big fella, your game is doing all the talking. In his era, everybody would be in the locker room like, 'Yo, this dude's a clown.'" As someone who caught kind of the tail end of that era, I agree with you. It wasn't like that. But what I would also say to Q Rich is media wasn't like that. Unfortunately, Q Rich, if that's still the mindset, you lose. If Evan Mobley doesn't come out last year and finally speak on why he's Defensive Player of the Year, he doesn't win it. I know a lot of people were saying that I said that Wemby should be the MVP. Number one, I never said that. I actually think Shai is still the MVP, and Wemby need a couple more spectacular games because you have to take it, and I don't think he's quite taken it yet. I agree with everything Wemby said, but I think he need a couple more signature moments down the stretch as voting rounds out to take that MVP. But he does have to speak on it, which is why the next day Q Rich or two days later, he was— He was— Number 1 on the board. Here's what I will say. I don't think Shea has to say much about it, but I think he's doing himself a disservice if he don't. Today's day and age is driven by media. If you think it does not apply to you, you're wrong. Woo-hoo!
